CRUS11TOUR is the name that David (Davey) Hovey gave to his battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. CRUS11TOUR is derived from his determination to “crush” this horrible disease and incorporates his St. Lawrence lacrosse number, “11,” as well as his love of golf and the PGA Tour.Our mission is to raise critical funds to support brain cancer research with a specific focus on Glioblastoma. This is a niche brain cancer where research funding and pharmaceutical support is limited. 100% of the money raised through CRUS11TOUR goes to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for brain cancer research, specifically being conducted by Davey’s doctor, Dr. David Reardon. Hearing that over 30,000,000 animals are being subjected to torment and abuse leaves us with a heavy and hopeless heart, however, our goal is to stay as optimistic as we can with only one mission in mind- to save as many animals from meat trucks, shelters, or slaughterhouses. We work closely with some amazing organizations in China to not only rescue and repair these damaged souls but then, to actually get them into loving new homes. In partnership with schools and at Girls Inc. centers, we focus on the development of the whole girl. She learns to value herself, take risks, and discover and develop her inherent strengths. The combination of long-lasting mentoring relationships, a pro-girl environment, and evidence-based programming equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers, and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Every year the SSJ Invitational is held as a fundraiser for the Stephen S Johnson Memorial Fund. The tournament honors Stephen’s memory by bringing together his family, friends and members of the local community who share his passions by indulging in one of them - golf. The fund's mission is to continue Stephen's passion for helping others by giving to a number of carefully selected causes. In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic the SSJ Memorial Fund will be donating to these specific causes this year, New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, Community Crisis Action Fund, and Womenade of Great Squamscott. Additionally, the 2021 scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is pursuing a college education in nursing, medicine, mental health or emergency services.
