Although D.C. no longer jails people for lacking the funds to buy their freedom before trial, many other places still do. Bail funds make payments to allow people ensnared in the criminal legal system to return home to their families and lives while fighting their case. Gifts will be split evenly between funds run by volunteers in our home states. Over the last decade, these bail funds have collectively freed nearly 4,000 people—a number we hope to continue growing with your support.
