Thankfully we were able to use a credit for a Covid-related cancellation we had from Spring 2020 making this ticket purchase much less painful. We are flying directly from Indianapolis to Boston the Sunday after our wedding to enjoy the coast of Maine for a week. We are so excited!

Our first scheduled pitstop on our Day #1 travel north from Boston to Bar Harbor. Augusta holds the distinction as the eastern most capital city and the third least populated in the country with only 18,605 residents. Most significant employers of the city include the power company, "Shop 'n Save" grocery store, and the local Buick dealership. Despite its slight stature, Augusta is trying to reinvent itself and revitalize its downtown by featuring the asset of the Kennebec River which runs through the heart of the city.

Bar Harbor is proudly known for its fresh seafood - caught, delivered, cooked, and served straight from the boat - we’ll have more than just lobster making our mouths water. From shrimp, scallops, and crab; to haddock, flounder, clams, and oysters - Mount Desert Island’s sea-to-table options are endless.

Acadia Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor amid a thriving shopping district full of galleries, fine restaurants, and boutiques. The hotel is within two blocks of 130 restaurants and bars, 200 shops and galleries, the waterfront, and Acadia National park. Originally built as a ship captain’s house in 1880, the Main House and attached Boat House offer a wide variety of rooms, all tastefully renovated with modern amenities.

In addition to seafood Bar Harbor boasts tastes from around the world, you can enjoy Mexican, Asian, Italian, Cuban, and of course, American dishes. Famous for its locally brewed beer and handcrafted ice cream. After a day's worth of activities in Acadia National Park, no matter where we eat and drink, Bar Harbor’s restaurants are sure to leave us satisfied.

It has been said that wine is bottled poetry. In truth, we know it to be something much more beautiful...sunshine held together by water. Help us celebrate our love with a bottle of sunshine and poetry. The best wine in the world is the wine we drink together.

Nervous Nellie's is an eclectic campus covering several acres in an idyllic island setting, a one-time homestead and heirloom orchard at the edge of a spruce forest. They make about 300 jars of jam a day by hand year-round in the jelly kitchen--a tiny white Cape cottage--using mainly Maine fruits. The meadow and woods are filled with sculptures from discarded metal, locally-milled lumber, dump-foraged material.

Our third night we have been fortunate enough to book an 1800's historic Inn on Flye Point in Brookline, ME. Our stay will include ocean views and access, complimentary blueberry pancake breakfast, and supposedly fantastic star gazing at night. After two days in Acadia National Park, we anticipate a slower pace as we begin to explore the small towns of Coastal Maine.

We anticipate tasting all the blueberry things....

Day trip to the town of Vinalhaven on the Fox Islands. This 15 mile ferry trek takes approximately 1 hr and 15 min.

After a stop at the local grocery store in Vinalhaven we hope to hike up the road for a picnic inside the Basin Preserve. This 789-acre preserve surrounds a 360-acre tidal embayment on the west side of Vinalhaven known as the Basin. The Basin is largely spruce-fir coniferous forest mixed with hay scented fern fields and pitch pine woods at higher elevations. Looking for wildlife? We hope to see seals on the ledges, bald eagles and osprey hunting, lots of winter ducks, and maybe even one of the Great Horned Owls that nest nearby. In fall, the trails are lined with Amanitas and other mushrooms.

The last ferry leaves the island at 4:30pm! We will be heading back to Rockland for a special dinner.

I read that in Rockland the variety of lobster dishes alone will overwhelm you. Enjoy lobster in the rough or on a roll. Savor its subtle flavors in a bisque, or try comforting lobster mac and cheese. Interestingly, about 90 percent of the nation's lobster supply is caught off the coast of Maine. And, did you know? One in two million lobsters is blue!?!

Friendship is known among sailors for the iconic Friendship sloop. These gaff-rigged boats were designed to be sailed single-handedly while fishing and are now popular as a pleasure boat. The year-round population of Friendship is 1100 and many of the town's waterfront properties are owned by those from “away”.

We are returning from Boston to Indianapolis the Saturday following our wedding.
