IJC hires and trains new lawyers to provide free quality legal assistance to people fighting deportation. It was founded by the late Judge Robert A. Katzmann, who was a mentor to Thad.

Bed-Stuy Strong is a mutual aid network founded in March, 2020 in response to the pandemic. The network supported over 28,000 people in Central Brooklyn through weekly home grocery deliveries and redistributed crowdsourced funds to those in need throughout the pandemic. Bed-Stuy Strong continues to create space for voluntary, often reciprocal care and support for a community in which Emily lived for many years.

PLA provides free legal services to people in Philadelphia, including helping people obtain benefits and public assistance, keeping people in their homes, and protecting farmworkers. Thad worked there for two years as a paralegal before going to law school.

As a former counselor at Catoctin Quaker Camp, the Baltimore Yearly Meeting camping program is one of Emily's favorite communities. BYM's STRIDE provides tuition assistance, transportation, and gear so that young people from all backgrounds can attend camp.

Pangea is a California-based nonprofit that offers direct legal services to people facing deportation and helps clients engage with grassroots organizations to push for broader change. Several of Thad's heroic friends from law school work there.
