Kiwanis Camp Casey is a weeklong camp for children with physical and mental disabilities. Shaffer has been a counselor since 2005, and last year Emily volunteered for the first time and fell in love. It is not possible to briefly summarize what camp means to Shaffer, but suffice it to say he considers the decision to volunteer as a shy 16 year old one of his best. For 80 years, Camp has been a place where campers can be regular kids and for the first time realize they are not alone with their disability. It's also a place where naive teenage counselors gain a profoundly new perspective on life. And everybody's parents get some much needed alone time! Camp is free to attend, and all camp staff volunteer their time, including the amazing nurses. But necessary expenses such as facilities, insurance, and food keep getting more expensive. If buying Shaffer and Emily stuff to put in their house doesn't appeal to you (or even if it does), consider donating to Camp Casey.

So we don't have to buy carbonators for years!

For those of you who have ever enjoyed brunch at our house, you know that it sometimes takes three French Press Pots to satisfy all of our guests' coffee needs! With this carafe, we will be able to make coffee ahead of time and keep it warm so we can enjoy you all the more.

We boil water every morning in Emily's electric kettle purchased for her dorm room in 2007. Time for a grownup kettle!

We drink soda all the time and the number of cans we end up recycling is astounding. This will save us so much waste!

Although we will be camping much of our time in Banff and Jasper... we certainly plan on enjoying breakfast in bed at least once!

We are going to spend a lot of time either cooking over a camp fire, or using our little backpacking stove!

When Emily's grandparents were married, her Grampa promised her Gramma a honeymoon at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Fifty years later, they finally made it! Though we will be staying in a cabin near Lake Louise (more our style), we are hoping to recreate some of this romance in their honor.

We tend to stay in most nights... but one of Shaffer's favorite things to do on a Friday night is enjoy a locally brewed craft beer with Emily at Joe's Corner after a long week at work.

Emily had an amazingly fun time chaperoning Camp Casey campers on their go karting adventure, but now Shaffer wants to take her to LeMann's Karting near their house in Fremont to show her how it's really done.

We love to cook together. Having the ingredients pre-portioned is not only an amazing way to cook with very little waste, it will be a super fun date-night activity!
