Vintage Fiat 500 Tour of Tuscany

Fiat’s story begins in 1900 when Italian entrepreneur Giovanni Agnelli opened the first Fiat factory in Turin, Italy. Agnelli founded the car company with a group of local investors, calling their newest venture: Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT), or Italian Automobile Factory of Turin. Their first factory was quite small, employing only 150 people on a daily basis. But the tiny automaker proved successful in its home country, which cleared the way for Agnelli to establish the first Fiat factory in the U.S. in 1908.Fiat remained one of the bestselling cars in Europe for the next 100 years, especially in its native Italy. It survived Mussolini’s reign during WWII, developing new, innovative technology that ventured out into railways, commercials trucks and even airplanes. After the war, Fiat looked to expand its offerings to the U.S. once more, rebuilding many of its former operations in the States. From that point on, Fiats became popular roadsters in the U.S., especially among young Americans - a trend that continues to this day.

Dinner in Florence
Purchased
The Florentines, like most Italians, have a very important relationship with their food. There are rules about what can be eaten when, with what accompaniments and in what particular order.Seasons and traditions play an important role in the kitchen and you can easily tell the time of year by simply looking at a Florentine menu, bakery window or market stall.Florence’s side streets are a rabbit warren of restaurants and cafes.Florentine cuisine is earthy and rustic, at times even austere. Not extravagant, but reliable and modest. Sincere and straightforward. Although simple, it is prepared with pride and care, and makes particularly good use of bread and olive oil, two of the cuisine’s staple ingredients. With a nod to medieval origins, many dishes reflect the ethos of not letting anything go to waste. The Florentines are masters of thrift, using up what others would normally throw out. They make the most of stale bread, chicken livers, lampredotto (abomasum tripe) and even roosters’ combs – although this once popular Renaissance dish, known as cibreo, is almost extinct today. All of these ingredients are carefully prepared in characteristically simple ways, unique to Florence, in dishes such as ribollita, crostini di fegatini and lampredotto panini. Not only are these ingredients a model of economy in the kitchen, but they are also exalted, with these well-known dishes being elevated to hero status in the city.

Italy is home to some of the world’s favourite drinks and beverages. From pre-dinner drinks to cocktails for a night out, there is a wide selection of tasty beverages that you can enjoy. Many Italian drinks have gained international acclaim over the years. The rich, ancient history behind some of these drinks gives them an irresistible allure. There’s no better way to indulge and experience Italian cuisine than to accompany your dish with an equally amazing Italian beverage. Here are the six most popular Italian drinks and beverages highlighted below:1. AperitivoAperitivo is known to be an excellent drink that prepares the digestive system before one sits down for a delicious Italian dinner. Mostly served as a pre-dinner drink, it is often enjoyed at the local bars where people relax after a long day of work. It is a light and dry tonic, which prepares the body’s digestive metabolism better than an overly sweetened cocktail. Many Italians think of this drink as a classic tradition before indulging in their typical four-course dinner. Be sure not to skip this famous Italian custom when you get to visit Italy. This is one of the most popular Italian drinks and beverages.2. NegroniThis famous Italian drink has an interesting history. Named after Count Camillo Negroni, a frequent traveller living in Florence in the 1920s, the origin of this drink has many variations. It is commonly believed that Camillo Negroni went to his usual bar after a trip from London and asked for his regular drink to be served just a little differently. He requested that a part of gin be added to his beverage and had it garnished with a flamed orange peel instead of the usual lemon. That’s how this famous drink came to fruition.Negroni is made from one part of gin, one part of Campari, and one part of red Vermouth, and garnished with a slice of orange. This famous Italian beverage is now one of the most common cocktails in the world. The Negroni family set up a distillery that still makes a readily mixed version called the Antico Negroni.3. CampariOriginating from a small local bar in the province of Novara in the 1800s, Campari is now a widely favourite drink in Italy and across the world. Made from a mixture of herbs, spices, fruits and alcohol, Gaspare Campari formulated the bitter recipe for the drink that later took over Italy and Europe by storm. People would come to Gaspare’s bar in Milan to experience the drink. When his sons took over the business, the drink was taken to Nice and the beautiful French Riviera. From there, it didn’t take long before Campari was enjoyed all over the world.Campari is known for its bitter taste, which can take a while for some people to get used to its unusual flavour. It functions as an excellent refreshing boost to one’s digestion. This famous Italian drink is also often served with citrus juice or soda.4. AmericanoCommonly known as the father of Negroni, Americano shares the same ingredients as the Negroni, only leaving out the gin. This famous Italian beverage is widely served with ice and a slice of lemon or orange. The Americano was previously called Milano-Torino because it is made from Campari and Vermouth, which originated from Milan and Turin respectively. It was later changed to Americano in memory of the boxer, Primo Carnera’s victory in New York during the 1930s. A fun fact is that James Bond ordered Americano in the famous Ian Flemming’s novel, Casino Royale.5. BelliniBellini takes its name from the famous 15th-century artist Giovanni Bellini. This drink was made in 1948 when Guiseppe Cipriani, the owner of the famous Harry’s Bar in Venice, launched an exhibition in memory of the Giovanni Bellini. The drink was made for this occasion and soon gained traction, especially with members of the art community who would visit Harry’s Bar.The drink has a signature pink look inspired by a pink vest on a monk in one of Bellini’s paintings. The cocktail gained recognition all over the world when other artists spread the knowledge of the drink as they travelled.6. SpritzVeneziano has many variations of its name, also known as the Veneziano or more commonly the Aperol Spritz. The famous Italian drink was made by the Austrians who were occupying Venice in the 1800s. Over the years, bitter herbs were added to the drink to add it more kick.In the 1920s, the Barbieri Brothers invented their own spritz by adding oranges, rhubarb and gentian, which resulted in the neon orange Aperol Spritz now commonly recognized all over the world. Venetian wine was too strong for them, so they would dilute it with sparkling water to make it milder. This internationally acclaimed beverage is one of the most common pre-dinner drinks you can find in many Italian restaurants. It has become an Italian alternative to Rose wine and many other summer cocktails.

Martinis at Dinner

We all know Derek's favorite cocktail, right? The first dry martini is sometimes linked to the name of a bartender who concocted the drink at the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City in 1911 or 1912. During Prohibition in the United States (1920–1933) the relative ease of illegal gin manufacture led to the martini's rise as the locally predominant cocktail.

Afternoon Aperol Spritz Cocktails
Purchased
Though Aperol itself didn't come into being until 1919, the idea of a spritz has been around for much longer. The name appears to trace back to the 1800s in when portions of the Veneto region of northern Italy were controlled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Visitors and soldier from other parts of the empire were said to have found Italian wines too strong and so lightened them with a splash (a "spritz," in German) of water.Wine may have been the starting point for spritzes, but the recipe slowly evolved, first substituting flat water for the lift of bubbly soda water, then progressively supplementing the flavors with fortified wines and progressively, liqueurs. In Italy, the Aperol spritz is typically a pre-dinner drink sipped with snacks, sometimes garnished with a green olive to make a "Venetian spritz."Aperol finally entered the picture in the early 1900s, when brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri inherited their father's liquor company in 1912, and after seven years of experimentation, debuted the bold, technicolor tipple Aperol, inspired by the French term for apéritif: "Apéro." The original recipe, which is still in use today, remains a secret, but does include both bitter and sweet oranges as well as rhubarb. The brand grew in popularity throughout the beginning of the 20th century, but it wasn't until the '50s that the official recipe for the Aperol spritz was born. The sip was a hit in its native Italy as an aperitivo—a sort of light, low-ABV pre-dinner drink meant to refresh you from the day and get your appetite in gear for the evening.

You will likely meet at least three generations of the Porpora family during your meal at this warm and inviting restaurant. The food, too, is inviting: Deep-fried zucchini flowers are stuffed with ricotta, anchovy, and lemon zest, and traditional Amalfi Coast pasta dishes (like one with mussels, potatoes, zucchini, and provolone) have a lighter, more modern touch than versions elsewhere. Chef Giosuè Maresca’s wife, Mariella, makes the restaurant’s legendary desserts: In particular, try the tart and creamy delizie al limone. A few doors down, Vincenzo’s sister holds court at a small shop that sells the aprons worn by the servers at Da Vicenzo, as well as ceramics, small-batch olive oil, liqueurs, tablecloths, and glassware.

Limoncello
Purchased
This is one of the most popular drinks in all of Italy, and you might find it on the shelves of local stores as well. The recipe is remarkably straightforward. ; limoncello is an Italian liqueur. It is made from lemon zest, water, sugar, and alcohol. Even though different alcohols might be used, one of the most popular is vodka. What do you need to know about this drink, and why is it so popular? Where Did Limoncello Come From? So, where did limoncello come from? Even though the exact origins are unknown, the common belief throughout Italy is that the drink originated in a house located in Capri somewhere during the early 20th century. Locals used to grow oranges and lemons to create drinks for their guests. Following the end of World War Two, bars opened in this part of the country with limoncello as an option for guests. Even though Capri is commonly associated with limoncello, the drink is also closely associated with Sorrento, Positano, and the rest of the Amalfi Coast. Even though each town has its own specific recipe for this drink, it is common throughout all of Italy.

Vespa (Italian pronunciation: [ˈvɛspa]) is an Italian luxury brand of scooters and mopeds manufactured by Piaggio. The name means wasp in Italian. The Vespa has evolved from a single model motor scooter manufactured in 1946 by Piaggio & Co. S.p.A. of Pontedera, Italy. After World War II, in light of its agreement to cease war activities with the Allies, Italy had its aircraft industry severely restricted in both capability and capacity.Piaggio emerged from the conflict with its Pontedera bomber plane plant demolished by bombing. Italy's crippled economy, and the disastrous state of its roads, were not immediately conducive to the re-development of the automobile market. Enrico Piaggio, the son of Piaggio's founder Rinaldo Piaggio, decided to leave the aeronautical field in order to address Italy's urgent need for a modern and affordable mode of transportation for the masses.

Private Tour- Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice
Purchased
Facing the Grand Canal, hosted in an Istrian stone palace, Peggy Guggenheim Collection is the most important museum in Italy for European and American art of the 20th century. The museum was created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979), who bought most of the artwork between 1938 and 1947, in Europe and New York, consulting with friends, artists and art critics. The American art collector exhibited her entire gallery for the first time in Europe at the 1948 Venice Biennale. A year later she bought Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an unfinished 18th century palace where she had lived for 30 years and where her museum is now located. Today the collection is recognized as one of the most important of its kind, remarkable for the quality of its works and for its historical breadth: during this visit you can admire masterpieces of Cubism, Futurism, Metaphysical painting, European abstraction, Surrealism and American Abstract Expressionism by artists such as Mirò, Brancusi, Pollock, Dali, Kandinsky, Picasso, de Chirico, Mondrian, Calder.

Wine at Dinner
Purchased
Wine has been made in Italy for at least 4,000 years, from the time of prehistoric people who worked with wild grapes to the Greeks, who named the country Oenotria, or “the land of wine,” when they arrived in Italy in the 8th century B.C. The Romans established a vibrant wine trade throughout the their empire, influencing wine culture not only in Italy but elsewhere in Europe as well. Even during the Dark and Middle Ages, European monks and the Catholic Church maintained the tradition of winemaking. The first imprint of one of Italy’s most famous regions, Chianti, emerged as early as the 16th century, and the regions Barolo and Marsala were known throughout Europe as early as the 19th century, when advances like bottling and the use of corks allowed Italian wines to be shipped.
