Founded in the early 1990s outside Boston MA, the mission of SCFG is "to foster excitement, confidence, and literacy in STEM for girls, particularly from underrepresented communities, by providing free, experiential programs and by maximizing meaningful interactions with women mentors in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics." After returning from Peace Corps in 2008, Debbie worked with SCFG coordinating and expanding their programming in the city of Boston, and recruited her sister Susannah and mom Anne into volunteering with their programs as well. "The Plan," as we refer to it, is to try our hand at living small and sustainably aboard a small wooden sailboat, growing together as we explore, and learning to live slowly and harmoniously with our surroundings. Anyone who knows Jonathan has heard this tall tale before - but it's really through Deb that his wanderlust has been transmuted into something productive. This dream is not just for us; we hope to share this adventure with all of you, and use it to nurture each of us (and the next generation) towards wiser, more independent, and more scientifically minded lifestyles.
