We want to make the most of our 3 weeks in Thailand. We plan to begin in Bangkok and then experience the jungle and great food and lands of Northern Thailand. We will then spend our remaining time on the various Islands on southern Thailand Snorkeling, diving and getting massages!

One of the highest rated experiences in Chiang Mai- we will leave our hotel at a ridiculous hour (5 AM?) to head to the west of Chiang Mai to explore morning life in Northern Thailand. We stop at the foot of the Chiang Mai Hill to witness the daily ritual of Buddhist monks leaving the temples and walking among the local people to accept alms offerings. We then visit Doi Suthep temple which is located on the peak of the Doi Suthep Mountain and is the most famous landmark in Chiang Mai. They say we have not truly been to Chiang Mai if we have not visited this temple! At the top of the temple we can view the pagoda shining with real gold, and a viewing platform offers panoramic views of the whole Chiang Mai City. At the temple we will receive a holy monk blessing with a holy yarn bracelet and sacred water from a monk.

We hope to charter our own private traditional longtail boat, catch and cook our own lunch directly from the sea on our way to visits the 4 islands of Koh Gai, Koh Tup, Koh Mor and Koh Poda. This tour is highly recommended in our research and we are very excited!

Approximately 37 miles north of Chiang Mai, situated on the banks of the Ping River, is Chiang Dao Elephant Camp. In an unspoiled setting, marvel at the worlds largest land animal, performing amazing feats of strength and skill, at the command of their 'mahouts'. Follow an exhilarating elephant trek through the neighboring jungle, past bamboo trees and hanging creepers, upwards toward a remote Lisu hilltribe village. The Lisu hilltribe people originated in Tibet and their villages are usually located in the mountains around 3280 feet. Local lunch is provided; and a thrilling river rafting adventure down the Ping River after. On return to Chiang Mai, the journey continues by road to an Orchid Farm at Mae Sa. There is ample time to stroll around this scenic area where a picturesque forest waterfall can also be found.

We want to start off our honeymoon at an Elephant Sanctuary in Chiang Mai where we will spend the day at the facility, hear the personal stories of their rescued elephants; learn about the problems the elephants faced before they arrived in Southeast-Asia, help unload and distribute treats and care for the elephants. As part of this experience, and to allow us to travel to this area where protected elephants reside we must fly to Northern Thailand before making our way back to the islands in the south.
