Calabash bowls have a history in Hawaiian culture. This style serving bowl is used in Hawaiian traditions and ceremonies. Throughout the years, acacia wood calabash shaped serving bowls gained a reputation as the “Hawaiian” bowl.
Acaciaware serving bowls are hand-turned from one solid piece of acacia wood. Acaciaware is sustainable, meaning the wood is harvested in a way that maintains the natural forest conditions needed for wildlife and healthy ecosystems. In addition, the acacia tree is fast growing and can re-grow from roots left in the ground up to 2-3 times!

In a studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn, graphic designer Sean Tice and Parsons alumni Kristy Hadeka work together to craft and create a variety of trusty rustic home products made from black and red slate. They source the materials from a local quarry to make everything from cheeseboards (which allow you to use chalk to specify the names of the selection of cheeses you’re presenting) to coasters, place mats and teakettle bases - all of which lend just the right amount of provincial charm to your spread.
