We're headed to Amsterdam for our honeymoon...and need to eat. Located in a former 18th-century coach house, Merkelbach's spectacular garden is hands-down the best outdoor dining experience in Amsterdam.

Tucked down the Nes – what looks like a back alley running south of Dam square – Van Kerkwijk is unprepossessing from the outside, but inside it's habitually packed with customers at small wooden tables. They don't take reservations and there's no menu (in the ink-on-paper sense) so the servers recite a list of dishes. These range from French and Italian classics such as steak tartare and carpaccio, through to north African tangines and Indonesian curries.

French for "The Time of Cherries" a song written in 1866, this is a sweet little bistro in the Marais (where we’re staying for the last couple nights of our honeymoon). Help us make it special.

Paris is our last stop on the honeymoon. The cafe’s straightforward formula is brilliant: crepes + oysters + cider. The galettes look like filigree—lacy, thin and crisp on the edges—and taste almost like roasted potatoes, with a toasty nuttiness. We're told that the simplest are the showstoppers.

We're stopping in Ghent, Belgium, for one night on our honeymoon. Help feed us while we're there.

A cultural cafe & restaurant, Norderlicht is a special place, a bit like a human settlement brought back to Earth The greenhouse-like cafe is surrounded by an artsy yard in the midst of a former shipyard. Bonfires and live music every night in the summer.

Cooler locals come to this diminutive spot on the postcard-perfect, drawbridge-and-giant-arch-adjacent Kadijksplein for well-spiced Dutch takes on classics like hot pumpkin-paprika soup and the mini "rice table" dinner sampler. Then they linger until closing (1 or 3a) to chat up the cool-kid bartenders over cigarettes and wines by the glass."

With its high ceilings, mahogany bar, wooden wainscoting, Art Deco lamps and old prints, De Reiger dates from the time when De Jordaan was a working-class quarter. The clientele has moved upmarket, but the atmosphere and no-nonsense fare hark back to the Jordaan of old. Daily-changing menus are chalked up on the wall, and might include lamb’s shank with rosemary sauce, and a tarte tatin. Arrive early."
