The couple met thanks to Kristen Tate in May 2023. She was a teacher working at the school Port Neches Middle School with Zuri. She was also in a women's volunteer group with Arquelle called Junior League of Beaumont. She had only spoken a handful of times with each of them. But enough to get a feel of their personality. One day she text Arquelle and asked for her age. She stated there was a handsome coach the same age as her at the school and she normally doesn't play match maker but she felt led to make the introduction. Of course Arquelle being the shy person she is was hesitant but stated she would give it a shot. Zuri introduced himself after sending a friend request on social media. They had their first date 2 weeks later and made it official less than a month after that on June 16th, 2023. Zuri proposed on December 5th, 2025 on a family cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. Arquelle had absolutely no clue this was about to happen. He had planned a nice intimate beach proposal on port day in front of Arquelle's family but plans had to be aborted and he had to pivot. Arquelle's mom, Anita Jones helped Zuri in proposing during the Captains Dinner. It was perfect. She would already be dressed, she was with family, and it would still be intimate. He came up with a plan with her family to do a family group picture she'd be clueless and then he had the perfect moment. He then got down on one knee and asked "Arquelle, will you marry me?" She excitingly said "YES"! They were engaged! We are so grateful for everything God has brought us through and how far we have come. We are so happy for this union and can't wait to see all the more God has to offer.
