A concert was being held in Golden Gate Park to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love and, as avid music lovers, both Rachel and Doug decided to attend. They just didn’t know each other yet. Rachel went with her father, and they planned to meet up with her brother and some of his friends. Doug just happened to be one of his friends. As the two shortest people in the group, Rachel and Doug were pushed to the front as former members of the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and others put on a rocking tribute show. Well, supposedly. Rachel doesn’t remember a single thing about the performance because she was too busy dancing and talking to Doug. The night went on and the two parted ways, never really expecting to see each other again. But they did - this time at Rachel’s brother’s annual birthday pool party nearly six months later. It’s a wonder she even recognized Doug given the ridiculous moustache he was growing for “No Shave November.” The two hit it off again, talking all night and even ending the night with a kiss. Doug asked for Rachel’s phone number, and Rachel honestly never expected to hear from him again. But two days later, she did. Their first date was spent at Urban Putt, an indoor mini golf course/bar located in San Francisco’s Mission District. They didn’t even play - they were too busy talking. And from there the two spent nearly every weekend together, driving between San Francisco and Marin County (where Rachel was living at the time) to get to know each other. And the rest is history. An instant, effortless connection turned full-blown love affair.
