It was April 2016 when Morgan and Zach met at an underground bar in Muncie, Indiana. The bar was called The Chug and they were separately chugging that night. Their brief meeting began from mutual friends recognizing each other at this bar and they started a short conversation between the two of them. One of their topics that night covered their forthcoming summer plans. They quickly discovered that they both would be interning at the same architectural firm in Indianapolis that summer. In the summer of 2016, Zach started his first day of his internship. He was individually introduced to the whole firm which was over 60 people and too many names to remember. Eventually, he was introduced to Morgan (again) and funny enough, their smiles toward each other informed the HR employee that they had met before. As the summer months passed, a small lunch group of interns formed where Morgan and Zach got to know each other more. Zach's interest in Morgan grew, and he asked Morgan to go to a concert with him "as friends" and suggested inviting another lunch bunch member. A concert with G-Eazy, Logic, YG and Yo Gotti sounds like a good time, right? After a week or so, Zach invited Morgan to meet his friends Jordan and Mike at a local cigar bar in Indianapolis. This was a good time of drinks, cigars and laughter. On the following Monday and on their lunch break at work, Zach asked Morgan to go on a date the coming Friday. The paragraph break represents the pause Morgan gave in answering Zach's question. Morgan was so pleasantly surprised that she forgot to answer, but she said yes! Leading up to their first date, Morgan and Zach had so much excitement entering the weekend that on Thursday, not Friday, they decided to go to a nearby Mexican restaurant to enjoy chips and salsa, and margs. Thursday evening was a great time filled with questions of getting to know each other. By the next day, the work week was over and Friday evening came. Finally, Morgan and Zach had their first official date by going out to dinner and a movie.
In the fall of 2016, the college semester began again and Morgan and Zach continued their relationship. Morgan was in her fourth year of undergrad while Zach was in his first year of grad school at Ball State University. They started hanging out with each other's friends and spending more time together by going on walks all around Muncie on the weekends. During tired days in the architectural college, they would grab coffee on campus while debriefing about their days. In the spring 2017, Morgan was applying to grad schools and was accepted into the architectural program at the University of Michigan. When Morgan moved to Michigan, they saw each other every 2 weeks and alternated who drove to visit. The time together in Ann Arbor expanded their places to explore, eat and drink. When Zach graduated in 2018, he returned to the same architecture firm where they had interned in Indianapolis. During this time, Morgan's parents had welcomed Zach into their home which gave Morgan a win-win as she visited home. At this time, Zach’s family lived between Indianapolis and Ann Arbor in Lima, OH which was perfect to celebrate a couple holidays and the occasional weekend with the Grapner’s. During these visits, Morgan and Zach would walk the neighborhoods many times while slowly planning their next steps after Morgan graduated. To narrow their job search, they decided on researching cities along the East coast and found many interesting architectural firms in Boston. They both visited during the spring of 2019 to better understand what the city offered and they were sold! They started their job searches while helping and encouraging each other. Morgan would be the lucky one to punch her first ticket to Boston after receiving a job offer. During the summer months in 2019, the Cook family, Morgan and Zach were planning a trip abroad in the upcoming fall season. And in August, Morgan moved to Boston with all of Zach’s belongings, only leaving a suitcase. It was a gamble, but Zach had a good feeling about one particular interview. A few weeks later, they flew to Boston to connect with Morgan, and unknowing to Morgan, Zach had secured a job in Boston. Their lives together were about to begin...in Iceland!
For 10 days in September 2019, the Cook family, Morgan and Zach traveled around Iceland in a rented car. They stayed at various Airbnbs and visited many amazing landscapes of various waterfalls, black sand beaches and hardened lava fields as far as one could see. They also explored dormant volcanoes, smelly geysers and a glacier region along the way. They went on many hikes and treated themselves to local cookies as a reward. Near the end of the trip, they found a less-traveled hot spring which was a great and relaxing time to end the trip. Fast forward to fall 2023, Notre Dame football was starting their season in Ireland while their friends Eric and Ellie were also getting married there a couple months later. This was a perfect opportunity to plan and visit Ireland for 2 months that Morgan and Zach ventured on. They traveled to Dublin, Belfast UK, Kilkenny, Cork, Killarney, Tralee and Galway while over there. They went on tours of breweries, castles and even a prison museum. While traveling between places, the green, hilly landscape was filled with endless sheep throughout the country. One of their best memories here was visiting a medieval museum in which they dressed in chainmail and dresses of that period during the tour. Last year, Zach was able to visit a glass manufacturing facility in Germany for a work-related trip. Even though this was a short 3 day trip, Zach asked Morgan to go with him. The first day included the work activities and tour of the glass facility followed by the weekend to spend time visiting the nearby area. They visited Lauenforde, Frankenberg, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg which was filled with plenty of schnitzel, sausage, potatoes and drinks. In August this year, the now Grapner-Cook's will be traveling back abroad to Belgium for their honeymoon and for more adventures!
