Question

Why Barcelona?

Answer

After doing long distance for over a year from New York and Northern Ireland, Barcelona is the first city in which we lived together in Europe. We spent 6 months in the neighborhood of Poblenou, 5 minutes from the beach, soaking in the sun, eating paella, and working on our Spanish. It felt right to celebrate with friends and family in the place where we made our first home together.

Question

What is the closest airport?

Answer

The closest international airport is Barcelona-El Prat (BCN).

Question

Where is the wedding taking place?

Answer

The wedding is taking place at Masia Can Plantada, a 16th century Spanish masia, about 35 minutes outside of Barcelona.

Question

Where should we book accomodations?

Answer

We recommend guests stay in Barcelona center, so that you can soak in all that this amazing city has to offer before and/or after the wedding. We have coordinated a hotel room block as well as provided options for Airbnbs in Barcelona, but of course you're welcome to stay wherever you'd like.

Question

How do we get to the venue?

Answer

We will be organizing shuttles to take guests to and from the wedding venue. The shuttles will leave near the recommended hotel(s). More information to come!

Question

Do we need passports?

Answer

YES! We recommend checking your passports ASAP. Make sure that your passport does not expire within 6 months of your travel date, and double check your visa requirements.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Typically at this time of year in Barcelona, it should be a high of mid-70's F and low of mid 60's F (18-23 degrees C). Barcelona is notorious for amazing sunny weather, but anything can happen to be sure so check ahead of packing!

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

We ask that guests honor their invitation to indicate whether or not a guest will be accommodated (i.e. "Joe Farren and Guest"). If you'd like to discuss further, reach out to us directly.

Question

Can we bring our kids?

Answer

While we love your little ones, we have chosen to have a child-free wedding, with the exception of a few immediate family children who are part of the ceremony.

Question

The wedding is on a Friday, when should we plan to travel in and out?

Answer

While it is completely up to you, we recommend flying in at least a day early in order to recover from any jet-lag and just in case you encounter any travel delays. We will be hosting a day-after celebration Saturday afternoon, so we recommend leaving on Sunday if your plans allow. Joe and Zoe plan to be in Barcelona from Tuesday September 23rd through Sunday September 28th.

Question

Should I tip in Spain?

Answer

Tipping in Spain is optional, with no set minimum. In restaurants, it's up to you to leave a small amount for good service, not a percentage. While appreciated, tips aren’t expected or required. If you do tip for excellent service, 5-10% is enough.

Question

What if I don't speak spanish?

Answer

You can travel through the area, especially Barcelona city, without being fluent in Spanish. But, in Catalonia the official languages are Catalan and Spanish, so it is very likely that you will hear Catalan a lot. It is advisable to download a translator app that can help you with street signs, important notices and to understand some locals that might not speak English.

Question

Do I need to bring a plug adapter?

Answer

The plug types used in Spain are types C and F and operate on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz. You will need a power plug adapter for sockets type F and a voltage converter to protect your devices since the standard voltage in Spain is much higher than the level that devices typically operate at in the US.

Question

Can I rent a car in Barcelona?

Answer

Yes! But most rental companies require an international drivers license (IDL). It's a simple paper booklet that allows your license to be used in many european countries. Some will allow you to rent without an IDL by simply not asking if you have one. However, you can get one at Triple A offices in 15 minutes very easily.

Question

What’s the best way to get around Barcelona?

Answer

Barcelona is super walkable and has an excellent public transportation system. Here are our tips for getting around easily: 🚇 Metro & Public Transport The metro is safe, clean, and efficient. You can buy a T-Casual card for 10 rides (great value!) or individual tickets. Trains run frequently, even late into the evening. 🚕 Taxis & Apps Taxis are reliable and widely available. Free Now and Cabify are the most dependable taxi apps in Barcelona—way more consistent than Uber. You can also hail cabs on the street; look for the black and yellow cars with a green light. Make sure to ask them if they accept credit card before getting in!

Question

Tips for staying connected?

Answer

To make navigating easy (and avoid roaming charges), we suggest: Adding Spain to your phone plan (e.g., international day pass through your carrier), or Downloading an eSIM via apps like Airalo or Holafly—super convenient, especially if you want instant data on arrival.

Question

Is Barcelona safe?

Answer

Yes! Barcelona is a very safe city overall—especially in areas where you’ll likely be spending time (central neighborhoods, tourist sites, and the wedding events). That said, pickpocketing can be common, especially in busy areas like La Rambla, metro stations, or major tourist attractions. It’s not dangerous, just sneaky. A few quick tips: 1. Keep bags zipped and in front of you. 2. Don’t leave phones or wallets on café tables. 3. Use a crossbody bag or money belt if you're carrying valuables. 4. Be alert in crowds and on public transport. Aside from that, Barcelona is warm, welcoming, and easy to enjoy safely—day or night!
