Our relationship may or may not have started in summer 2015, when we were both working in the same group at Goldman Sachs. Zoe was an intern, Yifan was a full-time analyst. We only overlapped for a couple months and (sadly) most likely never spoke. After that summer, we both went our separate ways. Fast forward to November 2019, we were both single, living in downtown NYC and searching for love (on Hinge). For Yifan, it was Zoe’s milk date story (we’ll share this story at the wedding) that made him swipe right. For Zoe, it was the 29 hobbies Yifan had listed that sparked her interest in grabbing a drink. Our first date was at Raines Law Room, a speakeasy in Chelsea. We immediately clicked. Four months later, our relationship was put to the test when we moved in with each other for the first time - and with Zoe’s parents - during the COVID-19 lockdown. Yifan proposed in October 2022 in Central Park and we got legally married at City Hall in NYC in December 2022. We are so excited to celebrate with you in February in NYC, in the city where we met, fell in love, married (and will marry again). See you in February!
Our wedding date is on Lunar New Year 2024, the year of the dragon. The dragon is the most auspicious of the twelve zodiacs and symbolizes great power, strength and good luck. In Chinese culture, 双喜 (pronounced “shuang-xi”) translates to “double happiness”, whereby the occurrence of two celebratory occasions at once (in our case, our wedding + Lunar New Year) is considered good luck. We hope our “shuang-xi” combined with the Year of the Dragon will bring great health, fortune, and prosperity to us all!
