Mexican Pesos. U.S. Dollars are widely accepted but it’s easier to have pesos on hand for local vendors. You may also use regular debit/credit cards but be sure to check with your credit card company if it can be used outside of the U.S. with no fees.

Tips/best practices while in Mexico

Mexico does not have a strong septic system, toilet paper will need to be disposed of in bathroom trash cans. Be mindful of water usage when showering. Try to limit shower times and reuse towels when possible. There are laundry services available in the area if your rental/hotel does not have a washer and dryer. Most laundry appliances are a two in one or you can hang dry your clothes. Be sure to check your hotel/homes specifications. The street food is safe to eat! Choose busy vendors and eat the hot food cooked in front of you, avoid lukewarm. Wash and peel your own fruit. Grocery stores have a lot of items you traditionally see in the US with a lot less preservatives/ingredients. You may see nutritional warnings labels as well on these items-do not be alarmed! These labels are a way to provide consumers information on the ingredient's.

What do I need to bring?

Answer

The basic necessities- charger for any electronics, your passport, toiletries and medications. If you plan on participating in any activities/excursions, most companies will provide dry boxes or a safe place to put your belongings. Sunscreen and other products that you may need are available for purchase if you don’t have them in a travel size. The weather will still be on the warm side, so if you plan on getting in the water, bring your suits!
