Back in 2013, Zoe attended the Oktoberfest Festmaster's Ball and met the incoming Festmaster Dave Ring and his wife Denise. A year later when Zoe was Miss Sparta 2014, she saw Dave and Denise again at the Festmaster's Ball as they completed their year. Then the next year as Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest 2015, Zoe once again saw Dave and Denise. All those years, though, Scott was in attendance of the ball as well, but the two never met. Three years had passed and after getting to know Dave and Denise very well through Oktoberfest, Zoe overheard a conversation between Dave and Christa Brehm, one of Zoe's best friends and the Miss La Crosse/Oktoberfest during Dave's year, about Dave's son Scott. Because Zoe had not known of Scott’s existence, she asked Dave if he would introduce her to him. Two days later, during the Maple Leaf Parade, Dave took Zoe to his family's parade viewing area where she finally met Scott. They chatted for about 15 minutes, but when Zoe left with Christa, she said, "I just met my future husband."
