Ben and Zoe first laid eyes on each other in the Sky Ranch Ute Trail lodge on May 13, 2024 when they arrived at the first day on the job as wilderness guides. At first, they both denied feelings for each other and shoved any thought of it deep down. However, there were glimmers of hope like the Misty Mountain poem and the Gunnison Rodeo (ask us and we'll elaborate). Anywho, they became good friends over the summer and by the end, Ben was convinced he needed to ask Zoe out. After getting friend zoned and eventually, an "I'll think about it" from Ms. Zoe, she finally relented to allow Ben to drive the 8.5 hours down to Houston to take her on a proper date. Side note: Ben somehow managed to lose his car keys at the end of camp (everyone knows Zoe probably stole them...) so they got to spend 4 extra days together along with a couple of friends (Liz Walker can attest), which really solidified the beginning of their relationship. That was the first time they summited Uncompahgre Peak, which will come into effect later. A couple of exchanged letters and many phone calls later, Ben ventured down to Houston and asked Zoe to be his official girlfriend that first night on September 6, 2024. From there things only got better. They continued to bond over camping, climbing, climbing mountains, going dancing, worship leading, pickleball, music listening, and reading, among many other things. While the long distance has been difficult, it’s taught them so much, patience and dependence on the LORD’s timing being the primary. Fast forward to the Summer of 2025. Ben and Zoe both got to go back to Sky Ranch where he was the assistant manager of the Wilderness team and Zoe was a guide. This time around, things were different – they were officially dating, and Ben had a ring burning a hole in his pocket. After a wonderful summer of going on trail sharing the Gospel and lots of fun weekend trips together, they stuck around Colorado and Ben proposed to Zoe the day after camp ended on top of… you guessed it: Uncompahgre Peak. Needless to say, she said yes and now they’re making history!
