YES. We are asking that all parties continue to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. We would like to be as sure as we can be that everyone leaves in good health!
Should I wear a mask? We encourage you to wear a mask unless you are eating, drinking, or taking pictures. Will there be enough room to safely distance at the wedding? Yes! The banquet hall is built to accommodate up to 600 people. With our guest list of approximately 150 people, there is plenty of room to enjoy yourselves at a safe distance! How will we be seated for the ceremony and dinner? There won't be any assigned seating (unless you are a parent and grandparent of the bride or groom). You are more than welcome to seat yourselves however makes you the most comfortable - be that with your immediate family group or with others. Will there be temperatures taken before the event? No. As a result we do ask that you take your safety and the safety of others into consideration. Do your best to avoid contact with COVID-19, wear masks, and socially distance leading up to the wedding.
Dating back far beyond 7000 B.C., hand-fasting was the official wedding of the ancient Celts. As Celtic culture spread from Ireland and Scotland into western Europe, so did the customs of marriage. Hand-fasting became a staple of culture where all Celtic people resided. As Christian marriage rituals began to take over, some elements of the paganism of the Celts remained, including hand-fasting. The hand-fasting was incorporated into the Christian marriage ceremony itself. Christian Irish people exclusively used the hand-fast as de-facto marriage ceremony until a priest would visit the village, at which point he could “finish” the marriage rite properly with a Christian marriage ceremony. To be considered valid, the couple simply needed to declare their consent to be hand-fasted to each other in the presence of a witness, who would tie the knot for them. To this day hand-fasting is recognized in some Irish and Scottish villages as a legal and binding marriage!
Amy has a decent amount of of Celtic ancestry (the tartan being used belongs to the Greene clan, which her great grandmother was descended from. This is one of 6 Scotch-Irish clans in her family). Trevor is almost wholly German, and Amy has a decent amount of German heritage herself, so they will also be adding a German element to the Hand fasting tradition! Trevor and Amy wanted to do something unique, and felt that this combination was the best fit for them!
