And our story did just that; starting out on a dance floor & rekindling on one. We first met in 2019 at a Zabawa, a lively Polish banquet filled with music, dancing, and celebration. While that night brought us into each other’s lives, life had other plans for us at the time. It wasn’t until 2022 that we reconnected, when David invited me to a Zabawa (talk about a full-circle moment). And, by August 2023, we officially began our journey together. From the very beginning, David has been the planner in our relationship (shocking, I know). Whether it’s thoughtful dates, spontaneous adventures, or perfectly planned surprises, he has always found ways to make our time together feel special. So, when he told me we were heading to Cambridge for a weekend getaway, it felt like just another one of his beautifully planned surprises. He mentioned a dinner reservation and suggested I bring something nice to wear—but everything else remained a surprise, which felt completely normal. When we arrived at Langdon Hall, I was immediately in awe. The beautiful country house, a quiet beauty, tucked away in lush greenery, felt like something out of a dream—and so perfectly “our vibe.” At one point, while waiting in the lobby, I jokingly slipped a ring I was already wearing onto my ring finger and showed David. He had a cheeky smile, laughed and then told me to “take that shit off,” which in hindsight, would later feel like the sweetest kind of irony. Before dinner, David suggested we take a walk through the gardens. Knowing how much I love being outdoors (and my undeniable weakness for flowers), I happily agreed. As we were getting ready, I noticed him acting a little… off—he kept going to use the washroom. It happened enough times that I teased him about it (which I now know was because he was so nervous). As I was finishing my make-up, for a moment, a very random thought crossed my mind: is he proposing? To this day, out of all things to be thinking about, I don’t know why that thought crossed my mind. I quickly dismissed it… and in an attempt to settle my curiosity, I may have glanced at his pockets to be sure (seeing nothing, I was completely convinced a proposal wasn’t happening). As we wandered through the gardens, I couldn’t stop admiring how beautiful everything was. I remember thinking how magical it would be to get engaged in a place like this… blissfully unaware, ours was just moments away. And then, as we reached the end of the path, under an archway, David walked around to my side and got down on one knee. At first, I thought he was joking (he had pulled this move before!), but then I saw the ring… and everything else faded away. I was in complete and utter shock—in the best way possible. It all felt like a blur, but what I remember most clearly was the overwhelming joy of saying “yes” and knowing I get to spend my life with my best friend. (And for the record—the reason I didn’t see the ring earlier? He knew better and had it hidden in the waistband of his pants the entire time!)
