In the middle of the COVID lockdowns, we both downloaded "Big Brother: The Game," looking for a little distraction and connection. What we didn’t know then was that the game would lead to a whole online community — and eventually, to each other. Through Twitter profiles and endless online game nights, we became friends over the course of two years. When people from the game started meeting up in real life, we both ended up at the Firefly Music Festival in Delaware. It was the first time we met in person, and even though we were just friends, we naturally kept gravitating toward each other the entire time. Not long after, we realized there was something more — and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
During a trip to Disneyland with friends, James had planned to propose during a sightseeing day around Los Angeles. But when a surprise downpour and heavy fog made it impossible — not even the Hollywood sign was visible — he had to improvise. Since we’re not die-hard Disney people, I never imagined he would propose at the park, or even that he had already picked out a ring. On Valentine's Day, our first day at Disneyland, James noticed the ferris wheel and quietly filed it away. The next day, he kept trying to convince me to ride it, but I kept putting it off — until that night, when we finally braved the hour-long line with my best friend Hannah (our maid of honor) and her mom. James, who’s afraid of heights, played up his nerves the whole time. As we neared the top, he grabbed my hand and started reminiscing about all the "firsts" we had shared together. Just when I thought he might actually propose, he joked about skipping this particular first, making me second-guess everything. But then, with the lights of the park below us, he said there were still so many more firsts he wanted to share — and got down on one knee as we reached the top of the ferris wheel.
We will be having an open house in Utah on November 22, 2025. More details to come!
