Wedding Party

Learn a little bit more about each of these great people below!

Kendra Buteyn

Wedding Party

Kendra and Ali met while wearing Aeropostale t-shirts and covered in body glitter at a middle school dance. As magical as that moment was, the friendship really took off during a high school marching band trip to New Orleans. They ventured out to buy some non-Aeropostale t-shirts and somehow ended up in the French Quarter and very late. They hailed their very first taxi, learned how to efficiently make small talk with a middle-aged stranger and got to their performance just in the nick of time. From then on, the greatest best friendship came into fruition and they continue to be there for each other through thick and thin.

John Rasmussen

Wedding Party

Dave and JR met while attending Gustavus Adolphus College in 2008. Later on, JR really left an impact on Dave upon hearing the stories of JR's battles for Sigma Alpha Epsilon in the inter-Greek broomball tournament during January Term 2009 (he wasn’t even a member yet!). Dave and JR went on to become roommates at the historical Knox Apartments in Uptown Minneapolis. Notable moments from Dave and JR's roommate tenure include: "Ben Kingsley," every sighting of Scott Seekins, the original Batman TV series, Band-Aid and Company, appearing in the blurred background of the Ozzy Harris poster, honoring Johnny Molson, Brass Bonanza!, exploring empty duplexes, stooping and grilling, and the Annual New Year's Eve of Hard Knox.

Andrea Haugh

Wedding Party

Andrea is Ali’s older and much cooler sister. When Ali was born Andrea took one look at her said, “she looks like a grape” and left. They had a standard sibling relationship growing up. One moment they were making up dances to Ace of Base songs and then next Andrea was punching Ali in the face while Ali tried to bite her in the stomach. However, this sibling torture blossomed into a beautiful sister and best friend relationship! Their lifelong goal is to someday live together on a beautiful farm with their 100 pet cats.

Scott Broady

Wedding Party

Scott and Dave met at Gustavus during their sophomore year in fall 2006. Dave mentioned that Scott’s last name was the same as Adam Brody from the OC, Scott agreed that it was the same, though spelled differently. Along with Dave, Scott was one of the founding members of the Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Gustavus. They shared many long evenings in the campus center with fellow members going back and forth on the finer points of the organization’s newly drafted bylaws and chartering duties. They also were members of the undefeated 2008-09 Burros de Fuego Broomball team.

Amber Sternitzke

Wedding Party

Amber and Ali met when they were 7 years old and in Mrs. Ireland’s first grade class. During free choice time, they both got a little rowdy and knocked over the puppet theater. They promptly blamed someone else for the accident and scampered off to start their beautiful lifelong friendship! Their adventures continued through awkward middle school dances, pulling pranks using the courtesy phone in high school, silly road tips to Waldorf in college and all the way into trying to figure out how to be an adult. They say if you are friends with someone for 7 years, you will stay friends for life and we have surpassed that almost 4 times over!

Sam Paulson

Wedding Party

Sam and Dave met at Gustavus in 2007. They were members of Gustie Greeters, the new student orientation group, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In fall 2008, Dave sat down in Uhler Hall and gave Sam the hard sell on joining SAE, it was beautiful - and membership forms were due the next day. Sam promptly forgot to turn in his bid sheet and ultimately missed out on joining the fall pledge class. Don’t be alarmed though - he was able to join in the spring pledge class! Highlights of their friendship include: Habitat for Humanity Spring Break Trip 2009, haulin’ cube with Zeb, running amok on campus, Southwest-Uhler-Collegeview gatherings, Greeters and SAE.

April Sedlacek

Wedding Party

April and Ali met freshman year of college in Sutherland Hall at UW-Eau Claire. April was pretty quiet at first but Ali quickly realized that was because April was busy crafting the wittiest and most hilarious comments for the moment. April proved early on that she is in fact both the smart one and the funny one. Ali and April had many adventures throughout college and while living in Eau Claire for a couple of years after graduation. They even celebrated their friendship by traveling 3 hours together to the Wisconsin Dells to hang out with themselves. It was true love indeed.

Tom Oelfke

Wedding Party

Tom and Dave met at Gustavus in 2008. They were in the Vasa Wind Orchestra way back in 2006-07, but they didn’t know each other then. After college, they had a weekly standing dinner-bonfire night where they would haul out extension cords to the firepit and watch “The Dark Knight” until the sun rose. They have a shared connection of similar comedic interests and quoting Christopher Nolan movie quotes ad nauseam.

Amanda Taavola

Wedding Party

Amanda and Ali also met in Sutherland Hall at UW-Eau Claire. Amanda and Ali bonded early on over their love of traveling through arctic-like weather to drink keg beer in random people’s basements. When they actually used their common sense and stayed in the dorms during those cold months, they bonded over their love of pizza, cheese and The Office. Even though Amanda is the smallest person Ali associates herself with, Amanda has the biggest heart and cares so deeply for her friends and family. Ali can’t even fathom the thought of getting married without having Amanda there by her side.

Danny Bauer

Wedding Party

Dan and Dave met at Gustavus in 2006. Dan had transferred to Gustavus and Dave was his transfer Greeter. Along with Dave, Dan was also a Founding Member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Gustavus Adolphus College. Highlights include: Relay for Life and the Cupid Shuffle, Rainbow Connection performance, and the Too Close for Comfort Photo series.

Emily Adams

Wedding Party

Ali and Emily locked eyes one fall afternoon in September of 2012. They were both starting a Master’s Program at UMN and attending a small cohort orientation and get-together. It is safe to say that it was love at first sight. They bonded instantly over chips and dip (obvi) and wanting to get out to explore this new city they were both now living in. Every adventure that Emily and Ali took during their two years together in Minneapolis is one Ali cherishes so deeply. Despite growing up in Minnesota, Ali was new to “the cities,” and living alone at the time. It could have been a scary and isolating time but Emily swooped right in to make so wonderful and so memorable.

Zeb Zacharias

Wedding Party

Zeb and Dave met at Gustavus in 2007. They were members of Gustie Greeters, the new student orientation group on-campus. They shared many memories including: the 2007 & 2009 spring break Habitat for Humanity work trip running amok in Louisiana and Corpus Christi, TX, romping around to and from the various house gatherings in St. Peter, Dave being Zeb’s honorary wedding guest at several weddings, and Zombie Pub Crawl. Zeb was also with Dave on the night that Dave and Ali first met in downtown Minneapolis in 2009.

Lindsey Johnson

Wedding Party

Lindsey and Ali met through a mutual friend right after Ali moved to Minneapolis for Grad School in 2012. Ali always remembers being struck by how outgoing and adventurous Lindsey was from the moment Ali met her and quite frankly, being a little jealous of those qualities! Linds is always willing to try new things, see new places and get the most out every moment. Most importantly Lindsey can always be counted on for a good conversation and analysis about life over a lox bagel at Common Roots or a nice bike ride around the city or a lake. Ali loves that she has Lindsey has one of her most trusted confidants and best friends.

Ryan Dobbs

Wedding Party

Ryan and Dave met at Gustavus in 2006. They quickly became friends and ended up rooming together in Collegeview 2007-08 and off-campus at Olympus summer 2008. Highlights include: 2007 & 2009 spring break Habitat for Humanity work trip, sitting in bathtubs, Gustie Greeters, trying to climb almost every building on campus (they made it up on the Campus Center!!), and all the themed parties at Gustavus.
