Christopher's Story

An Unexpected Journey

The youngest son of Joseph and Erma Ciervo, Christopher, graduated from Rocky Point Middle-High School in 2006. After two years, Christopher decided to go to college and studied Psychology at Suffolk Community College in Riverhead. Christopher graduated in 2011, and not too far long after that enlisted in the United States Navy On February 14, 2011, Christopher departed for boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduation, Christopher was assigned to the aircraft carrier, CVN 72 USS Abraham Lincoln "Shall Not Perish". Later that year, Christopher was picked up as an Operations Specialist. Christopher was deployed for the world combat cruise in 2011, deployed for almost 9 months in the Persian Gulf. (Operations Enduring Freedom) (Operation New Dawn) In 2014, Christopher, now obtaining the rank of (SW) Operations Specialist 2nd Class Petty Officer, reported to Command Carrier Strike Group 12 "Ready on Arrival". Under the mentorship of Matthew Guilfoy, Kyle Williams, and William Burgess, he honed his skills and earned his bachelor's degree in Communication from Ashford University (Arizona Global). Later on, he would take over as Operations Leading Petty Officer. Christopher made (SW/AW) Operations Specialist First Class Petty Officer in six years and was appointed in 2016 as Operations LPO for Command Task Force 64 Ballistic Missile Defense Team in Naples, Italy. Assisting in complex missions and earning a Master's in Environmental Policy and Management. Christopher decided to take a hiatus from his military career and to focus on life with his family. He departed a road trip across the United States. Returning to Active Duty was a struggle as Christopher made the difficult decision to hang up his uniform and, after thirteen long years of service to his country, he turned over the watch. Focusing back on education, Christopher decided to pursue his Doctorate of Education at the University of Dayton. It was in 2024, that Christopher's life would be changed when meeting Carissa. Carissa would teach Christopher how to cope and live with PTSD/Mental Health. Deciding to settle down and pursue a future with Carissa, Christopher decided to put the books away and focus on his new life. Chris continued as a defense contractor and finally found his peace.

Carissa's Story

Carissa is the second of four children. She grew up in Bradford, PA. After living the small town country life, she decided to give the city a shot. She moved to Pittsburgh, PA to pursue a nursing career. While in nursing school, she worked in a Medical/Surgical ICU. Upon graduation, she transitioned to the nursing role on the same unit! Although ICU was familiar, it was labor and delivery that truly drove her passion. Once an opening became available at Magee Women’s Hospital, Carissa jumped at the opportunity and accepted a position! Fun Fact: she took a travel assignment in Seattle, Washington for 7 months! The mountains were breathtaking, and the lifelong friendships flourished. *small blurb about the divorce* After dreaming of living by the beach, Carissa took the chance and moved to Virginia Beach in 2024! She currently works as a night shift labor and delivery nurse! She has helped to deliver over 350 babies. Since the first shift at Magee, Carissa has kept a tally sheet inside her locker. It’s a wonderful reminder that even on the hard days, you make a difference. It’s another life that you helped bring into this world. On her days off, she enjoys the beach (duh), snuggling her fur babies, and listening to her vinyl collection!
