Always offer to drive people to the airport. Even though we tell people we met during a camping trip in Moab, we actually met when I offered to drive my brother to the airport at 3am in the morning. The day before Christmas Eve. Jarett was going to Costa Rica with my now Sister-In-Law, Evan, her sister Brenna, and their friend, Zelda. This was when I first met Zelda and discovered how sarcastically funny and smart she is. I was actually surprised when I found out Zelda was attending the camping trip, not knowing until I pretty much got to the camp site. While coming out of the tent the next morning, wearing one of the four Legend of Zelda shirts I packed, (again, not knowing she was going to be there) I hear "Did you wear that shirt just for me?" Embarrassed, I slunk away and muttered "I didn't even know you would be here." A few hours later, getting ready to go on a hike, I noticed Zelda grabbing the bag we had our beverages in. Trying to be the gentleman I am, and trying to redeem some sort of manliness, I offered to carry the bag for her. This act of chivalry must have done something, because I noticed that she was starting to notice me. That camping weekend, I got up the nerve to invite her to my birthday party. Shortly after that, and after some serious texting, I finally asked her out for a drink. After having an 8-hour long first date, including board games, craft beer, Disney Sing-a-Longs, and ending with pizza and Harry Potter, I knew I had found my soulmate. -Reece
We had a trip planned for the end of summer to San Francisco, and I was sure that was where it was going to go down. So, when it was suggested we go down to Durango two months earlier for my Dad’s birthday and a little bbq action, I thought nothing of it. We get down there, and boy was my family chipper and excited – even Uncle Todd drove down for Dad’s birthday! Awe! I was excited to take my love on my all-time favorite hike in Durango, Gudy’s Rest; but the family was being so weird about it. Callie insisted on coming and bringing her nice camera, Dawnmarie met us in uniform at the coffee shop early in the morning before we took off, and Dad wanted a picture of Reece and I before leaving, in wet hair and hiking clothes. Still, didn’t really put two and two together. He asked- 6 miles deep into the Colorado Trail, and on top of the world. I said yes, and happy cried pretty much all day. That night we had a private dinner planned at the restaurant I worked at in college and with two of my bridesmaids, Paige and Brenna. That restaurant holds a very sentimental place in my heart, and I was engulfed in a life full-circle moment. So much so, that I didn’t suspect anything out of the ordinary when we left the cocktail lounge to head up stairs to our table. Boom – there was my WHOLE FAMILY. 17 smiling faces looking back at me, including Brenna who drove down from Denver, and Paigey. Full-circle times two! I was beyond shocked and completely overwhelmed with the amount of planning, support and love sitting at table. We celebrated all that night, an all-day bbq the next day, and then kept the celebration going the day after that with an all-day lake day. It was a grand and magical weekend that forever changed my life. Reece didn’t throw me a Reece engagement, he threw me a Zelda one; complete with drama and surprise, and I feel as if I will never stop appreciating and loving him for it. -Zelda
