A mutual friend, Andrei Petrov, had invited them both to a weekend getaway in Lake Tahoe. JF had met Andrei through a Meet-Up hiking group. Lelia knew Andrei from underwater hockey. Yes, underwater. She didn't have a ride to Tahoe, so she gave up on going. Andrei didn't let that happen. He texted her "JF will pick you up at 7". She thought, "Who the hell is JF?" Well, little did she know it was her future life-partner. Lelia was late for the pick-up, which annoyed JF. A story that would be repeated for years. They spent 5+ hours in a car driving up. Lelia appreciated JF's driving style. JF liked that Lelia packed her own dinner and had no shame to bring it into Panda Express (his dinner). Then they spent the whole weekend with friends in the cabin. It rained the whole weekend so no one went skiing. They had dance parties, cooking festivities, yoga class, wrestling, and cuddle puddles. To end the weekend, they spent 12 hours in the car on the way back. At the end they decided they should go "surfing" together sometime. ------------------- Un ami en commun, Andrei Petrov, les avait invité pour une escapade au Lac Tahoe. JF avait rencontré Andrei lors d’une randonné pédestre, alors que Lelia jouait avec Andrei au hockey subaquatique. Oui oui, sous-marin. Elle n’avait pas de voiture pour se rendre à Tahoe et avait abandonné l’idée. Cependant, Andrei n’abandonne pas aussi facilement. Il envoi donc un message à Lelia: “JF va passer te prendre à 7h”. Elle se dit, “Mais qui donc est JF?” Elle était loin de s'attendre à rencontrer l’amour de sa vie dans les heures à venir. Lelia était en retard, ce qui énerva JF. Une scène qui se répètera à plusieurs reprises au fil des ans. Ils ont été forcé d’apprendre à se connaître puisqu’ils étaient coincés dans un chalet avec des amis lors d’une fin de semaine pluvieuse où personne n’est allé skier. À la fin d’un voyage de retour de 12h dans le trafic, ils conclurent qu’ils devraient aller “surfer” ensemble un de ces quatres.

Three days after deciding that we should "surf" sometime. JF was conveniently in Lelia's neighborhood and asked if she wanted to grab a beer at the Southern Pacific Brewing Company. Lelia excitedly agreed. After some conversation about who knows what, Lelia really wanted to kiss JF. She dropped a lot of hints that flew over under and around JF. Fed up, she took matters into her own lips. She leapt across the bench and planted her lips on his mid-sentence. Both were shocked and dizzy with the love feeling. ------------------- Trois jours après avoir décidé qu’ils devraient aller “surfer” ensemble, JF se retrouva “par hasard” dans le quartier de Lelia. Il invita Lelia à prendre un verre à la Southern Pacific Brewing Company. Lelia, excitée, accepta l’invitation sans trop laisser transparaître son enthousiaste. Personne ne peut se rappeler des sujets qu’ils ont discutés, car tout ce que Lelia peut se rappeler c’est à quel point elle voulait embrasser JF. Elle a laissé tomber beaucoup d'indices qui ont tous échappé à JF. Impatiente, elle prise les choses en lèvres et le coupa au milieu de sa phrase avec un baiser inattendu.

Lelia may have initiated the first kiss. But JF said "I Love You" first. It took Lelia some 6+ months after to decide her feelings on the matter. ------------------- C’est Lelia qui aura initié le premier baiser, mais c’est JF qui dira “Je t’aime” en premier. Ça prendra un bon 6 mois à Lelia pour se rendre à l’évidence et reconnaître son amour.

In her unplanned spontaneous style, she asked Jean-François to marry her in Lake Tahoe on a sleepless night at 2:00 in the morning ------------------- Lelia initia le premier baiser, JF dira “Je t’aime” en premier, alors c'était au tour de Lelia. Dans son style imprévu et spontané, elle demanda à Jean-François s’il voudrait bien l’épouser au Lac Tahoe à 2 heures du matin lors d’une nuit d’insomnie.
