The New York State Museum has free admission and is open from 9:30-5 every day except Monday. This is a great place to bring your kids, and you can walk across Empire State Plaza and see the Capitol and the Egg Theater as well.
Got a little extra time and want to venture further afield? We recommend going to Saratoga and exploring the town, the state park or Saratoga National Historic Park.
We used to go walking here with the dogs every day after work while we lived nearby! There's a trail that will take you right down to the Hudson River, or you can walk back to Hannacroix Creek itself.
Thacher Park is on the Helderberg Escarpment, where you can get a great view of our whole region. If you go, make sure to look down for amazing Devonian fossils.
The Hart-Cluett House is a historic home in Troy and one of the locations for filming "The Gilded Age". If you're a fan of the show, you'll enjoy a visit.
Is it weird to include a cemetery on your wedding "Things To Do" page? Maybe, but we go walking here several times a week. It's beautiful and quiet. If you have sharp eyes, you can spot some hollow metal monuments that were used to smuggle alcohol during Prohibition!
