Both transplants to the bay area, Kayla and Matt met in the spring of 2014 at the suggestion of Pennie Miller, office manager at Matt's physical therapy clinic. Their first date was a blind date; a trivia night at Room 389 in Oakland with a bunch of her friends. Although both were apprehensive, the conversation flowed easily about topics like the funny way she says "calendar," the periodic table, and being from out-of-town. Trivia was the perfect date idea for Kayla, an educator, and lover of learning and knowing the right answer. Matt was less worried about trivia answers and more intimidated by Kayla's leather jacket and hipster vibes. Even though Matt only answered one question right that night, he did charm her with gin gimlets and witty banter and the rest is history.
