The Proposal

You know the place that always makes you happy? The place that even just the thought of it will bring a smile to your face? Well, this is Lake Tahoe for Julia. Her and her family had gone there countless times over the first 15 years of her life. As you can imagine, there were so many special memories, shared laughs, and (of course) beautiful views. Obviously, Lake Tahoe is a spectacular place, but there was one destination that surpassed all the others–Rocky Ridge. This is where Grandma and Grandpa Zanzot had property and where Mark, Kim, Nick, and Julia would stay when visiting each year. They would hang out at the beautiful pool that overlooked the Lake. They would go crawdad fishing down at the dock. Or, they'd maybe take a walk down to the stunning overlook where you can see the entirety of the Lake, which feels endless from up there. As I kept hearing stories from the family on how special Lake Tahoe was, and particularly this location, I thought "Why not add one more special memory to this place?" As the day started to turn to evening, we had dinner plans at Sunnyside, Julia's favorite restaurant. After dinner, all the 'kids' went down to the water to skip rocks (an old family tradition after eating at Sunnyside). Once we learned Julia's hidden talent isn't skipping rocks (love you baby), we headed up to Rocky Ridge for the proposal. I should say, at this point, the entire family knows about the proposal with the exception of Grandma Carlisle and Julia. Once we got to the top, Kim, Nick, and I were running football plays to hand off the ring while Julia and Mark helped Grandma Carlisle out of the car. I'd be remiss to leave out the fact that Mark saved the day not once, but twice, by getting the gate code the day of and getting in contact with the photographer (who was unreachable from my phone all the way through dinner). Finally, we reach the overlook. Nick, Daniel, and Julia all jump up on a rock that overlooks the Lake to recreate a photo that was taken when they were kids. Once they hop down, Nick says, "Jacob and Julia why don't you take a photo?" Luckily Julia is looking out at the water at this point because I quickly turn around to see the entire family lined up behind me with their phones out ready to capture the moment. As Julia starts to turn around, I put my hands on her shoulders and she immediately starts crying because she knew what was happening. After we talked for a minute (don't ask either of us what we said because we completely blacked out), I got down on one knee and asked Julia Lynn Zanzot if she would make me the happiest man in the world :) We were so grateful to be able to share this moment at this beautiful location, but more importantly, we were so happy to be able to share it with her family around. Grandma Carlisle, Mark, Kim, Nick, Lindsey, Debbie, and Daniel, thank you for being a part of this special memory (and for not giving it away beforehand!). And now, we couldn't be more excited to celebrate the start of our lives together with all of you!
