How we met

August 2012

Zane and I met right before the Fall 2012 semester started at Pitt - at none other than a sophisticated late summer soiree in South Oakland 💁🏻‍♀️ I remember passing by this really cute guy on the way back to my friends after refilling my drink at this party and made a comment that I liked his shirt. This somehow lead to us talking and laughing all night, finding out that we had a ton in common, and leaving the party to get an Antoon’s pizza to share. Zane offered me a glass of water while we were eating pizza at his house and ended up returning with two bowls (like actual cereal bowls) filled with water, explaining that he had just moved into his place that weekend, and his roommate, who would have supplied the glasses and cups for the house, hadn’t moved in yet. I found it hilarious but also kind of sweet that he spent a lot of the rest of the night trying to convince me that drinking out a bowl was far more enjoyable than drinking out of a glass. While I didn’t necessarily agree with his claim that drinking water out of bowls was more enjoyable, it turned out we had other things in common. Zane really enjoyed recording and producing music, and I was really into songwriting, singing, and playing guitar at the time. He walked me home that night after our impromptu pizza date and texted me the next day suggesting that we try recording one of my songs sometime. We did, and I was nervous the whole time but I was so impressed by his talent after he sent me what he had done with the track we recorded later on. We always had feelings for each other throughout Pitt, but it wasn’t until Fall 2013 that we started taking things more seriously. We made things “official” January 2014 after I returned from California from winter break and we’ve been inseparable ever since!

The Proposal pt 1

Saturday, May 18, 2019

We purchased our first home together and moved in the beginning of 2019. We were so excited to throw our “official” housewarming party that we kept throwing little mini parties leading up to our planned Memorial Day weekend party because we couldn’t wait to show our friends our new home that we love so much! I was convinced Zane was going to propose to me the day of the party, but he surprised me with a proposal (and the most perfect day) the week before the party. A few days before the official proposal Zane had mentioned that he had written a new song. I asked to listen to it and it was a super sweet and cute love song. He suggested that we try recording the song during the weekend for fun. I agreed, but I was also really looking forward to doing some shopping for the new home decor that Saturday too and I also had a hair appointment Saturday morning lol (#priorities). He suggested we do brunch, go shopping, and maybe do some recording. On the day of the proposal, I had a pretty early hair appointment that took an hour longer than expected. Zane texted me a few times, asking if I would be home soon. I figured it was just because he was starving and wanted to eat ASAP lol but little did I know what was coming! I got home and we left for brunch at First Watch near our house. After brunch I figured we would do our home decor shopping since we were already out but Zane suggested we go home to do some recording first and then go out shopping. I was feeling very agreeable that day so I was like “okay why not shopping can wait” which is actually very out of character for me now that I think about it 😂 We got home and Zane had things set up to record the song he had written, with me on the mic singing. We ran through the song a few times, and I wasn’t feeling like I was delivering my best and getting a little frustrated. Zane suggested we try one more time, so I had the headphones on, waiting for the track to start playing and for my cue to start singing.

The Proposal pt 2

Saturday, May 18, 2019

Instead of the expected track, a prerecording of Zane started playing in the headphones and I realized in shock what was happening (a good shock lol). In his recording he asked me if I would make him the happiest man on earth and agree to be his wife before he got down on one knee and showed me one of the most gorgeous rings I thought I’d ever seen in my life 😍 I was speechless at first from the excitement of what was happening, so Zane finally had to ask, “Well??” before I said “YES!” I was so excited and couldn’t believe I was actually engaged to the man of my dreams - I had to tell my family right away! Zane let me know that our friend Ian was also coming over shortly to take some post-engagement photos of us before we headed out to go shopping, that he had made a dinner reservation at Jimmy Wan’s (our favorite place to get Peking duck in Pittsburgh), and that some of our friends and his parents were also going to meet us at Bob’s Garage in Fox Chapel for karaoke after dinner. I was on Cloud 9, could not stop staring at my new ring, and so impressed that he pulled all this off without my suspicions cause I am normally super nosy and it’s usually pretty hard to get things past me! Lol. He planned the most perfect day and included all of my favorite things to do. Super husband material 🥰 So far Zane’s proposal has led to the best day ever, and I cannot wait to top that day with our wedding day in May 2021. We are so excited for our family and friends to celebrate our union with us when #ZaneGetsaTan in June!
