Things To Do

We're so excited to share one of our favorite places with you! Again, Visit Sitka (visitsitka.org) is a great resource. Anna and Zane's recommendations: Backdoor Cafe (104 Barracks St.) Campfire Kitchen (in Harbor Mountain Brewery, 1209 Sawmill Creek Road) Old Harbor Books (201 Lincoln St.) Rising Tide Bakery (143 Price St.) Sitka National Historical Park (103 Monastery St.) Sitka Swirls (soft-serve ice cream truck, check their Facebook for hours!) Beyond what's listed here, there are local businesses that offer fishing excursions, whale watching tours, kayaking rentals and float plane tours.

Fortress of the Bear

4639 Sawmill Creek Road, Sitka, AK 99835

This is a non-profit sanctuary and education center that houses bears orphaned as cubs! You'll get a really up-close look at the bears, and every time I've visited, the volunteers and staff have been so knowledgeable and fun.

Sitka Trail Works

Sitka, AK 99835

This is a great place to find information on Sitka's trails! Anna's favorites are Heart Lake Trail (easy) and Gavan Hill Trail (hard).

Alaska Raptor Center

1000 Raptor Way, Sitka, AK 99835

See and learn about eagles, hawks, falcons and other raptors!

Sitka Sound Science Center

834 Lincoln Street, Sitka, AK 99835

The aquarium features over 200 local species of marine life and three touch tanks. There's also a gift shop which has some great locally-made products (and Ludvig's Bistro Chowder Cart).
