In the year of 2020, Zak & Shay met how most couples meet- on a dating app called Bumble. The two chatted about school psychology, Behavior Analysis, Slipknot, Taylor Swift and the like before deciding to meet in person. Their first date was at Nevers Park in South Windsor.

On the anniversary of when the couple first met, Zak told Shay they were meeting up with a friend who had recently moved but was visiting Connecticut. On the agenda, was first a walk and then a fancy dinner. Once at Nevers (sound familiar? Hint; it's the place the couple first met) Zak claimed his friend was running late. He insisted that they walk anyways. 20 minutes later, he popped the big question.
