Zack: Sandy was the first person I matched after re-opening Bumble. I messaged her, “hey we should get pizza together since we’re both so cute.” Somehow, that worked. Sandy: We split a vegan pizza at Pirillo’s (the best pizza spot in all of Puerto Rico.) I’d been on too many bad dates to waste time being polite, so once we sat down I told him exactly what I was looking for. I’m done messing around. I want something serious. If that’s not you, let's finish this pizza so I can go home. Zack: That first date led to another. And would have led to more… If I hadn’t had a two-month trip to New York already planned. I left right when things were getting good and regretted it the whole time. Every day I sent Sandy photos of my parents’ dog Bella and called her every night. Sandy: When Zack came back it was his birthday. I surprised him at the airport with a small cake and a big kiss. Zack: We took a trip out to Rincón not long after, partly to reconnect, partly to make up for lost time. On the way we found a dog wandering in the street. We named her Oreo. But that’s a different love story for a different time. Sandy: In Rincon, we went snorkeling and I asked Zack to be my boyfriend officially. I make it sound cool, but really, he asked me to ask him. He said yes! Zack: We stumbled forward from there. Sandy moved in. We found a home to buy. We rescued Honey. We traveled to Texas, New York, Disney World, and South Carolina where I ran a Spartan Race. We took care of each other when we were sick. We made fun of each other when we felt better. We grew together. Then came one night in Reykjavík, Iceland, under the Northern Lights. I’d smuggled Sandy’s engagement ring in my jacket all the way from Puerto Rico. I knew it was the moment. With our fingers going numb, I ignored her request for her gloves and got down on one knee in the snow. Sandy: If the cold wasn’t enough of a shock, that was. Zack: She said yes. Now we’re inviting you to celebrate with us in Puerto Rico at our wedding. We hope you say yes too.
