During our first year of college at Michigan Tech, Zack was at his fraternity house and was talking to Maddy Paul about a cute girl in the same sorority as her that he constantly saw walking through his dorm hall and had a bounce in her step. Maddy soon realized it was her little, Katie, and played match maker. After texting for a few days, Zack then asked Katie on their first date - Lego Batman in Fisher 135. From there, instead of going back to study for finals they went to watch a much better movie, Moana, in the EERC. Throughout the summer of 2017, Zack and Katie were constantly texting, calling, and snap chatting. Once they went back to Michigan Tech in the fall, they spent all of O-Week together. At the end of the week, Zack, with a little push from Haley, finally asked Katie to be his girlfriend on August 30th, 2017. While in Houghton, Katie and Zack got to experience all the fun traditional Tech activities. Some of our favorites included hiking Hungarian Falls, seeing Film Board films, hanging out at the Triangle and Delta Zeta houses (Zack got to prove how strong he was when Katie broke her ankle third year and would carry her up 3 flights of stairs to her room every day), Taco Bell runs, and when both of our orgs paired up together for Winter Carnival. Zack graduated Spring of 2020 with his undergrad; Katie graduated fall of 2020 with her under grad; and Zack graduated again Spring of 2021 with his Masters. The only good thing about COVID canceling the normal graduations was that we got to "walk together" in our caps and gowns spring of 2021 even though we did not graduate at the same time. After we graduated, we have loved to travel the country and world together. We have been to Toronto, Las Vegas, Disney (a few times), San Fransisco, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Maui, Oahu, Serbia, and Greece. We also have been able to go to many of our friends and families weddings. Which lead to Katie not so subtly hinting to Zack, she was ready to get engaged. Well, on October 15th, 2023 (6 years and a month a half after Zack first asked her out), Zack planned out the perfect proposal. We went on a hike through Hoffmaster State Park where he had a dozen roses laid out on the path that lead to a picnic. He even had Katie's friend, Dava, hiding in the trees to record it. We are excited to be getting married August 31st, 2024 (exactly 7 years and one day later) surrounded by our family and friends and cannot wait to see what the future holds for us.
