Our Story

How We Met: We met like most other millennials meet during this era…an online dating phone app! I didn’t know it at the time, but Zach actually lived in Springfield to finish out his residency (his living situation was conveniently left out during the first few weeks of conversation). It took us 2 months to meet in person, but during that time, we talked over the phone or through Facetime almost every day. We mixed the old school telephone calls with the new world of technology. Zach moved to Chicago a few months later in July 2017 and from there, our relationship solidified. We moved in together in 2018 and got engaged in 2019! About the Proposal: During our first few months of dating, Zach and I would send each other music, movie, and show recommendations since we were unable to meet in person quite yet. Zach sent many different artists to listen to, but there was one artist that really impressed me – Kishi Bashi. Fast forward to two years later, the artist was having a concert in Chicago. We immediately bought tickets. During the encore of the show, Kishi Bashi brought his band, Zach, and me into the middle of the audience and had everyone form a circle around us. On a box riser, Kishi Bashi played a song and had everyone sing the lyrics “I am in love with you” continuously. At that point, he pulled me up on the riser as Zach got down on one knee. After the shock and the “YES,” Kishi Bashi went into playing our favorite song. It was perfection! About the Wedding: After we had to postpone our wedding because of COVID, I saw a contest for essential workers. Put on by some of Chicago's best wedding industry vendors, the contest prize was a free wedding. Honestly, I thought it was too good to be true - but I decided to apply anyway. Through the course of an online application followed by an interview, we found ourselves to be the finalists. Unbeknownst to us, the vendors planned a big surprise for us one evening after work where we found out that we won!
