How We Met

June 28, 2014

We met at summer camp in 2013. Zach was working at the time as a lifeguard at Camp Keystone , but he switched to working on the ropes course the next summer where I worked. We spent a lot of time together and had a lot of fun together. Mutual feelings started forming from both of us, and I realized that this was someone who I wanted in my life. I liked Zach, but I was afraid of getting into a relationship with him since it was going to be long distance. (I know crazy) We discussed what our future would look life if we entered into a relationship, and we discussed what we wanted in a relationship. Finally, after much persistence from Zach, we started dating on June 28, 2014; and boy am I glad we did.

The Proposal as told by Stephanie

July 16, 2017

We had planned to go to Rainbow Springs State Park for a day trip on our weekend off at camp. We got up super early and drove a few hours to get to it. When we arrived we decided to go walk around the trails that were at the state park and then jump into the spring afterwards. Zach had seen a picture of a waterfall on their website, and secretly had planned to propose in front of it. To his disappointment, the waterfall was a lot smaller than he anticipated so we kept walking. (at the time I did not have a clue he had that planned) As we walked, we found a butterfly garden in which we walked around for a bit, and then sat down on a bench. We started talking, and I immediately thought to myself okay the proposal is definitely not happening today. (His plan to trick me was working) As I became a little upset about the thought of not getting engaged that day, we got up and were walking to leave the garden. We stopped under a wooden arch, and Zach asked me if I wanted to slow dance. (it is kind of an inside thing him and I had going on) Being somewhat irritated, I did not want to slow dance but agreed to it anyways. He played a slow song called "Running Home to You" and we danced to it all the way through. (I can't believe how sweet this was) At this point, I was somewhat crying (don't know if I was crying because I was irritated or moved lol), and when the song finished, we walked over to a bench in the garden. After I sat down, Zach got down on one knee and said, "I was born in North Carolina, and have called many places home since then, but I want to build a home with you, and I want you to be my home. Will you marry me?" I immediately started balling my eyes out, and of course I said yes! It was the sweetest moment ever!
