Zach and Sophia first met in the spring semester of 2016. They met in their Western Civilization class; Sophia a freshman and Zach a junior. Zach had just returned from his semester abroad in Rome and was curious who this new girl was. After their first class, Zach saw Sophia and approached her in the Great Room dining hall. Sophia was at the fruit stand grabbing an apple when Zach asked "How do the apples look today"? to which Sophia laughed, they proceeded to exchange numbers and stayed connected throughout the year.
Over the past few years, Sophia and Zach have turned to golf as a fun hobby and form of exercise. Zach was Sophia's very patient, loving golf coach and helped her grow into a not-too-shabby golfer. The couple loves to spend their weekends golfing with friends. The activity is now a special way to enjoy quality time. The springtime is a particularly busy season for the two, from Sophia's busy weekends at work and Zach's coaching schedule, there is usually not a lot of time for spring golf. Zach and Sophia had been talking about golfing at some point in the spring of 2022 and Zach mentioned trying out Eagles Nest Country Club, a private club close to Towson. Zach had a co-worker who would be able take the two as his guests and they could experience this course. Sophia loved this idea as she had never played here before! Normally, Zach is itching to play all 18 holes but Sophia suggested playing nine holes and Zach willingly agreed, much to Sophia's surprise and curiosity. Their tee time was set for the morning April 10th (fittingly, Masters Sunday!). The two pulled up to golf, tired and a bit groggy, after a night of celebrating Sophia's belated birthday with friends and family. It was an unseasonably frigid April morning, with gusts of wind and potential rain. The two set out for golf and walked the nine hole round. Zach was quiet and kept checking his phone throughout the round. On the ninth hole, Zach and Sophia had two fabulous shots to land their balls on the green. They walked up the very steep hill and rested their bags beside the green. Sophia went to putt her ball and turned around to Zach on one knee. Zach kept it short and sweet saying "Sophia - I have one more surprise for you...will you marry me?" and of course Sophia said yes, followed by many happy tears. The two hugged and Sophia marveled at her beautiful ring. The couple put away their bags and Zach led Sophia into the clubhouse where their families and best friends were waiting to celebrate! The group gathered over brunch and champagne.
Sophia and Zach knew that when they got married they wanted to do it in style. If anyone knows Sophia, they know that any party she plans will be quite the event! The ceremony will be held at Sophia's grandmothers church, Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church. For one hundred and nine years, this stunning Italian renaissance chapel has been adorned with intricate mosaics, Carrara marble, and breathtaking stained-glass windows. We are thrilled for our guests to experience the beauty and serenity of the chapel firsthand. Those close to Zach and Sophia know they are the ultimate foodies, so it comes as no surprise they chose to celebrate their marriage at Woodberry Kitchen. Woodberry Kitchen, a renowned Baltimore restaurant, is led by James Beard Award-winning chef-owner Spike Gjerde and executive chef Steven Kenny. The farm-to-table venue prioritize's environmental and community impact by supporting thoughtful farmers and watermen who work to preserve the abundance and traditions of the watershed.
