Zach and I both attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy. At the end of our sophomore year we were paired up as sea partners and headed to South Africa to join a ship together. It didn't take long for us to realize all we had in common and we officially started dating soon after. The next eight months we traveled the world together, and we are now back at school full time to finish our senior year at the academy.
Zach and Sara took a day trip to the Hamptons to visit family. On the way back, they stopped for dinner and walked around the shops in the area. There was a park with a small dock not far from where they parked, and Zach suggested watching the sunset before getting on the road again. Sara was caught completely off guard when Zach got on his knee! She expected him to do it in a few weeks when their parents would be in town but as Zach says, "I know she was and I didn't want her to expect it!' Little did Sara know he had asked her dad in May for permission and had been working on the custom ring for a few months.
What does "Saturday and Saturday mean?" When Zach and Sara first started talking about getting married they always said that it would be cool if they could celebrate the Saturday of commencement and the Saturday of the wedding in back to back weekends, and the saying just stuck! Fun facts: the saying is engraved on Sara's engagement ring and they also got engaged on a Saturday!
