Currently, visitors from outside the EU are required to be fully vaccinated. Sweden is scheduled to remove all entry requirements (including the vaccine requirement) at the end of March, but it is uncertain whether that date will be extended. For the latest information on entry requirements, go to https://polisen.se/en/the-swedish-police/the-coronavirus-and-the-swedish-police/travel-to-and-from-sweden/
Sweden uses the "Krona" also called the Swedish crown, abbreviated by SEK. The exchange rate fluctuates, but is currently 1 USD = 9 SEK.
You don't need to worry about bringing cash - credit cards and contactless payments work everywhere (even at farmers' markets!). Just remember to register the trip with your credit card company so they don't deny your purchases!
You will likely fly into Arlanda, Sweden's largest international airport. Arlanda is 30 miles from downtown Stockholm. You can get to the city from the airport by taxi, bus, or express train. The train (Arlanda Express) is the fastest option and will get you into the city in 20 minutes for 579 SEK ($60) roundtrip. We recommend against the taxis as they can be unusually expensive (we once paid $150). The shuttle bus is the cheapest option and costs 99 SEK ($10) one way, but the trip takes about an hour.
Wifi is abundant in public buildings, cafes and stores. If you want to bring and use your cell phone in Sweden, most carriers charge $10/day for an international day pass. If you choose this option, you will be able to continue using your American phone (with American numbers) while abroad.
Yes! There's no bride to be upstaged so if you've been waiting to wear that fabulous white dress, then rock it! It is a Summer wedding after all!
All of Sweden's liquor stores are run by the government through a store called System Bolaget. The liquor stores are open from 10 AM - 7 PM Mon-Fri, 10 AM - 3 PM Sat and CLOSED on Sunday. Liquor is also quite expensive in Sweden. If you want some beverages for your room, we recommend you buy liquor from Duty Free on the way over.
Stockholm is very pedestrian friendly and has a widely developed public transportation system. We highly recommend purchasing an SL pass which gives you access to the buses, subways, ferries, trams and commuter trains. There are many pass options, but a 7 day pass costs 415 SEK ($45) and gives you unlimited access to all transportation during that time.
