Great question. Sage’s family lives in Minnesota, Zach went to college in Wisconsin, and they met in the Midwest. Hudson, Wis., is a beautiful little spot right next to the Twin Cities (and very close to the airport!), so it’ll be a perfect blend of nostalgia, practicality, and joy.
Good catch! Yes, we are getting married on SUNDAY, October 12th. Generally speaking, it is Jewish custom not to wed on Saturdays, because it is Shabbat — the day of rest! :) So please, do rest up on Saturday — there’s dancin’ to do on Sunday!
For our Catholic guests, there are a few options for Saturday evening or Sunday Mass: On Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 9:30 a.m., there are Masses at St. Francis of Assisi, located at 16770 13th Street South, Lake St. Croix Beach, MN 55043 (10 minute drive from Hudson). On Sunday, there are 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses at St. Patrick’s Church, located at 1500 Vine Street, Hudson, WI 54016. <3
Wrong. And no laughing either. JUST KIDDING! Please bring your kids! We are going to set up a play area for our younger loved ones, and — weather permitting — the YMCA grounds outside will also provide ample space for toddlers to toddle and big kids to get their tag on.
October in the Midwest can be fickle…we recommend looking at the weather in the week leading up to the wedding, and packing layers no matter what the forecast tells you. The ceremony will be held outside, so make sure to bring an appropriate jacket in case it’s nippy — and be aware that guests will be seated (on chairs) in a wooden amphitheater with a packed dirt floor — so make sure you have reasonably comfortable, hearty shoes (we do not recommend stilettos).
IT’S COMPLICATED! We have been long distance for two years, as we pursue Master’s degrees in California and New York. Even before that, we have had a few years of bouncing around. We met in Chicago, then spent a year (extremely) long distance while Sage studied in Brazil, then reunited in Zach’s hometown of Colorado Springs before separating again to get our degrees. Now, we are spending the summer with our families before moving to Brooklyn…this time, together!
We have reserved golf carts to help any guests in need of transportation support to and from their seats. The reception is a short distance away (just uphill from the ceremony), and our golf carts will be available all day.
We are having a relaxed Pizza Dinner/Talent Show/Havdalah (end of Shabbat candle-lighting) on Saturday night to welcome guests that are arriving early. Please consider sharing a Talent — maybe a song, or poem, or even a short skit. Guests are also welcome to share a special memory or blessing. https://rb.gy/qunfxf
