Zac and Jessica met while taking a Sociology course at YVC. Zac sat at the front of the class and Jessica was a few rows back. Jessica couldn't understand at the time why Zac kept turning around looking back at her and eventually started waiting for her after class. Their first date was at Essencia, a coffee shop/bakery, in downtown Yakima. They officially started dating December 19, 2012 and have been together ever since.

One of Zac and Jessica's favorite places to travel together is Lincoln City, Oregon. Their first trip together there was in March 2016 and their most recent trip was in June 2025. Zac decided to take Jessica there for her birthday. But little did Jessica know that they weren't going just to celebrate her birthday, but also for Zac to propose to her. Shortly after they arrived in Lincoln City, Zac was anxious to head down to the beach. As they were walking on the beach, something came up about marriage and Jessica teased Zac about "well when we get married..." As she looked back over to Zac he was no longer beside her, so she turned around and Zac was on one knee. She couldn't stop saying "Wait! Are you serious?!" then of course, "YES!"
