Tinder with a drop of almost-meet-cute. Facebook had been telling Cam for a few years that he may know Dana since we had a lot of mutual friends in band, but we hadn't met yet. Dana downloaded Tinder over Thanksgiving break and had the app for only 3 days before she matched with Cam (who had to wait a bit longer to find her). We matched the Sunday after Red Hot Hockey, which gave us a lot to talk about. We planned to have our first date the following Saturday at the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum... but then we decided to move it up and go to dinner on Tuesday (thanks Alana for the band sub!). But by Monday night, we were so excited to meet each other that we met up at a Dunkin Donuts for hot chocolate and walked and talked for hours all around Boston. Dana was very proud of her steps, so she took a screenshot to send to her mom (28,383 steps! 11.6 miles!!)
After agonizing over a ring for many months, Cam worked with a local Jeweler to create a ring fit for Dana. The ring includes a main diamond from Cam's Great-Grandmother's dual setting Engagment/Anniversary ring and smaller diamonds from a ring from his aunt and includes gold repurposed from his Grandmother. Once he picked it up, Cam knew that he wouldn't be able to keep the secret for long so he quickly crafted a plan to get it out of his hands. Cam invited Dana to dinner in the North End, saying that some folks from work wanted to go to a restaurant there. They met at Portal Park, right by the TD Garden and Dana was informed that the guys from the office would be another hour, so they had some time to kill. To try and keep her off the scent of engagement, Cam offered to grab a drink or go for a walk ... or do literally whatever Dana wanted to do. As she didn't have a preference, Cam started walking them toward the USS Constitution and the spot where they first kissed. Less than 100 yards into this "impromptu" walk Dana said, "WAIT, didn't we first kiss over here. ARE YOU PROPOSING?!?" She immediately patted down 3 of his 4 pockets but to his relief didn't touch the one with the ring. But she realized she missed one and less than 30 seconds later patted his last pocket and knew what was happening! After pretending he wasn't for as long as he could, Cam led Dana to a bench along the Charles River and proposed. Luckily, she said yes and wasn't too disappointed in the fact that the following dinner wouldn't include anyone from Cam's work.
