It was a beautiful, sunny morning in May. The air was crisp, birds were humming peacefully in the background. We locked eyes, and instantly we knew there was more than meets the eye... JUST KIDDING! We met through an online dating app called CoffeeMeetsBagel in 2020. Covid had just come upon our society, and we were both, like everyone else, experiencing new and drastic changes in our routines and social interactions in our lives. I was working from home in Vancouver and Yui had just graduated from a university in Seattle. In two separate worlds, we were both, independently, enjoying God's presence and love, while praying to God that if it was His perfect will, He would bring a future spouse in His best timing. Then, the day came. At the initiation of Yui (I have a screenshot), I woke up one morning and saw a kind-looking Japanese girl had liked my profile. Moreover, she appeared to be a woman of faith! In a brief summary, we started sharing about our life experiences, God's work in and through our lives, and where we felt God leading us. Fast forward, we met in person in Seattle. As we saw each other for the first time, a mix of emotions overwhelmed us. We were close friends after months of video calls, she was my girlfriend, yet she was also a stranger that I had finally met in person for the first time. In mutual kindness and respect towards each other, and with a unified pursuit of Jesus, we felt a growing connection form between us, which lead to our engagement in Sept, 2020. Overall, we have seen God's hand working evidently in our lives. From providing pastors, friends, and families to pray for and mentor us, to opening doors for Yui to come to Canada, as well as opportunities for us to serve together through leading an online Alpha for others to come to know God. Yui's last prayer request is that her wedding dress will fit her body because she enjoys the food in Vancouver so much! We are both very excited to honor God through the wedding and marriage!
