Our Story

Powered by WiFi, Patience, and a whole lot of love

Evelyn and Yuelong’s love story started the old-fashioned way - awkward teenage crushes in secondary school with the occasional bumping into each other between classes and camp leader duties. Back then, their “good morning” texts had to be rationed because there were no Viber/WhatsApp/Telegram yet and Yuelong only had 300 free SMS with no roaming and Evelyn was on a prepaid SIM card, sending an SMS too long would count and cost as two SMS. But just as things were getting interesting, Evelyn packed her bags and left for Melbourne to chase her university dreams, while Yuelong stayed behind in Singapore. Thus began their long-distance saga, powered by late-night calls, emotional airport goodbyes, and an alarming amount of time spent on FaceBook messages. For four year, they became pros at dealing with time zones, glitchy video calls, and the occasional existential crisis about when they’d actually be in the same country again. When Evelyn finally graduated and returned to Malaysia to work, it should have been their long-awaited reunion- except Yuelong was now serving two years of national service in Singapore. Classic bad timing. But if there’s one thing they mastered, it was patience. They made it through weekend meetups squeezed between army book outs, countless “I miss you” texts, and an endless list of “things we’ll do when we’re finally together properly. Then came the ultimate test - COVID-19. Borders shut, flights canceled, and their reunion plans thrown out the window. While the world went into lockdown, so did their relationship - except theirs was locked in separate countries. Despite it all, they survived. Years of buffering video calls, timezone math, and long-distance longing later, they finally made it to the same side of the world. And after everything they’ve been through, one thing is clear - if love can survive national service, university years, and a literal global pandemic, it can survive anything. (Though, to be honest, if one more WiFi outage had interrupted their FaceTime dates, things might’ve gone differently)
