To be honest, Chris and Yuan don't actually remember the first time they met. They were both assigned to the same team when they joined Amazon in 2014, and under romantic fluorescent lights and across the cubicle walls of corporate offices in South Lake Union, they slowly became good friends. They bonded over odd stressors of work (what is Prime Day and how much inventory do we need?), texting pictures of various dogs they wanted to adopt back and forth, bands they'd been listening to, and of course, their mutual love of Domino's pizza. Over the years, their friendship grew even after they moved to different work teams. Chris adopted Votto in 2015, and Yuan became his de-facto dog sitter. They explored hiking trails around Seattle and trained for races together, eventually running a half marathon together in the Moab dessert in 2018. Eventually, their friends succeeded in prodding both of them to admit they liked each other, and Votto was able to finally hang out with Yuan every day.
