How We Met

AKA how Zhen got out of the friend-zone

Zhen and I first met in 1998 Christmas party. And no, we did not immediately become best friends since then. In fact, I used to think of him as that annoying and cocky boy who thought beating me at Four Squares was everything and that Starcraft was above all. I still remember I used to roll my eyes at him every time we saw each other. People say there is a very fine line between love and hate. We finally accepted each other's flaws and became best friends all throughout high school and college. But our friendship never blossomed into something more because we both did not want to ruin our precious friendship. Until one day, Zhen told me to just stop seeing him as a friend, but as someone who is willing to love me, and take care of me and my family, for the rest of our lives. He is the Chandler to my Monica, who is forever supportive of my weird decisions and busy career. I can't wait to grow up old with him, and be his best friend and partner in life forever. Yuan and I apparently first met at a Christmas party when we were 10 (this is according to one of Yuan's earliest journal entries, so I'll take her word for it). My first memory of our meeting was when a mutual friend invited us both to go swimming, and I had mistaken her for another girl who was in my Chinese school class. Needless to say Yuan had very strong feelings for me from the get-go, albeit negative feelings. I eventually won her over with my charm - ok, more like persistence because College Station had a very small Chinese community, but that's all in the past now! We eventually became best friends and kept in touch throughout the years, and I couldn't be happier that I got out of the friendzone and into the endzone. I've known Yuan for over 20 years, and the great thing about dating/marrying your best friend is you don't have to play games or go through the awkward ice-breaker stage. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend :)

The Proposal

3/23/19 at B.R. Cohns Winery

I proposed to the love of my life on March 23, 2019 at B.R. Cohn Winery in Napa, CA :) Yuan had planned a road trip for her family in Napa, so I decided to put a proposal plan in motion: hire an a capella group to accompany me in serenading her with "All of Me", propose, then surprise her with a roomful of our close friends to celebrate afterwards. How has Covid19 affected us

We have decided to officially postpone our wedding from 8/8/2020 to 7/10/2021. Please mark your calendar for this new date! We are hoping that we will be able to celebrate with everyone, dance, hug and laugh with one another without having to worry about getting sick!! We understand some of you have already taken days off for 8/8/2020, and we truly truly appreciate that. While it was a difficult decision, ultimately, your health and safety are our number one concerns! Most of our guests will be fully vaccinated by July 10, 2021. We are very excited to see every one this year!
