To our family and friends: Thank you for your ongoing love and support. We would not be here today without you. 2020 was quite a year to say the least but ended on a positive note for us! We are so excited to share this day with you and look forward to dancing the night away with you!
One of our first meetings was on the baseball diamond when Tom subbed on Sarah's softball team "Hard Body Beauties" and he went 4-4. Sarah doesn’t quite remember his personal stats as it was a summer beer league but Tom remembers how he crushed the ball and reluctantly had to play right field. After the celebratory high-fives we both went on our ways living/working in Chicago. Our paths crossed again in Wrigleyville before a Cubs playoff game in 2017 at Murphy's Bleachers. We were able to do a quick cheers on the patio before heading in to the big game. Not too long after we met up with some mutual friends at a bar in Wicker Park and the sparks flew! We exchanged numbers and Sarah patiently waited to hear from Tom. Sarah decided she liked him and she was going to message him first (gasp). Tom was happy she did and the first date was set! Sarah chose the restaurant Folklore and Tom picked her up later that week with gifts on hand. Tom was a perfect gentleman! Sarah was so impressed with his thoughtfulness! Not only did he present her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers; he also brought gifts for her sister Molly and her dog Max. They went on to have a wonderful romantic first date! Tom really knocked it out of the park! It was at the diamond where they first met and now they will become forever after at another Diamondhead.
We love to travel! Some of our favorite vacation spots are in Key West, New Orleans, Nashville, Charleston, San Diego, Hilton Head and Milwaukee! Yes, we have a lot of places we like! We love to hang at the beach/pool and adventure around the cities on ghost/historical tours, boat tours, trolley tours or just walking around town. We both love to experience the cities by the cuisine and nightlife! We also love going to see the Cubs or Blackhawks play or catch a concert. Throughout our various adventures we learned a few things about packing. Packing tips: Sarah learned to leave her heels at home and pack more walking shoes. Tom learned to leave a little extra room for Sarah's things in his suitcase or carryon.
It is no secret that Tom loves Illinois Football! Have you seen his mancave? We share an alma mater of the University of Illinois and the love of Illini football too. One of our favorite things to do together is cheer on the Illini. Saturdays in the fall you can find us tailgating before and Illini football game at Memorial Stadium with our family and friends. One of the first games together we went to good ol' Kams for a celebratory beer! This is a tradition we will continue to enjoy for many years to come!
It was a cold and snowy day and we were preparing for Sarah's sister's annual Christmas Eve celebration. Sarah had just finished wrapping presents when Tom surprised her in their kitchen with a big grin on his face. There in front of their dog Riley he got down on one knee and asked "Sarah Suzanne Young, will you marry me?" She said "Yes!!" We kept it a secret until we arrived to the family celebration with a great surprise of our engagement! Best Christmas ever!!!
We chose to get married in Florida for our love of the beach and sunsets not to mention the nice weather in December.
Sarah has always really wanted a dog. One rainy spring morning Tom took her to a shelter to "look" at dogs to see what was available. It was the first puppy they saw from Alabama named Dazzle and it was love at first sight. Sarah held her in her arms and knew she was the one! Dazzle became Riley Ann Young (RAY) a tribute to Sarah's father's initials. Riley is a huge part of Sarah and Tom's life. She has brought so much joy and unconditional love. They love going on walks together and playing fetch! Riley loves to steal Tom's spot on the couch and to give kisses.
