We met at a local coffee shop my friend and I would frequent when we were doing bible studies and good conversations. He was working there at the time, and he was willing to graciously give us time to chat with him about David Bowie or his favorite book, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. We kept in touch for the past 14 years, and over time, we spent together building our friendship. After this coffee shop closed, we kept in touch, through moving, changing jobs, and life transitions. He and I prayed for each other during difficult and peaceful seasons of life. We walked long walks, had many conversations over meals, I would write him cards often and he kept them. Once he left for Bend, to start and run a coffee shop, I wasn't sure when we would reconnect. Then one morning, I asked him for coffee, and we met up again after some time. Later we spent time in our circle of friends, and attended bible study together on Sunday evenings at his home church. I had cared for him and eventually he saw me in a new light. One weeknight last summer, we took another walk around the neighborhood and we walked past the lane where we often walked, but it felt different. He turned and told me he knew things had changed. From then on, we saw a future together, full of joy. We are so happy to share in our joy with you.
