Alex and I first met during freshman year of high school 12 years ago. After graduation, as many friends do, we drifted apart. A year later, we reconnected and were just about inseparable ever since. When asked whether we were together, we insisted we were just friends, but it wasn’t long before we realized we were only fooling ourselves. After Alex admitted to me she wanted to be more than friends one day, I realized how much I loved being around her. Yes, I was surprised but I admired her bravery. Her energy, her smile, and her laugh was contagious. I was the happiest I have ever been. So I asked her to be my girlfriend. For 6 years, we adventured together and I spent some of the happiest moments of my life with her. Throughout the years, Alex was a constant. She was my rock. She was the push I needed when I thought I couldn’t go any further. She was my support, my happiness and a blessing. No matter how hard I fell, she was always there to help me back up with a smile on her face. And no matter how bad of a day I may have had, as soon as I saw her smile, I felt like the luckiest man alive. It was then that I realized this is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. During Alex’s graduation, I told her father, Javier, my intentions to ask Alex to marry me and he graciously gave us his blessing. Then, on our 5-year anniversary, I asked Alex to do me the honor of becoming my wife and she said yes. And now, here we are!   As we make preparations for the big day, I am excited. Indeed, I’m excited for the big day and for the opportunity to share this moment with all our loved ones. But that’s not the most exciting part…I’m excited because I know I will get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend, my rock, my inspiration, my partner in crime, my source of happiness, and the love of my life.
