Cusco sits at 11,152 feet (400m) elevation. It's high up. It pays to be well hydrated with electrolytes. They have local teas that are said to aid acclimatization. Usually, you will feel clearer by day 2 or 3. It varies from person to person. For anyone with an extended stay, you'll feel fully acclimatized in about 5 days.

Travel Note

Climate / Season

It will actually be right in the middle of summer in Peru in January. Even so, it is usually cool during the day (65-70°f) and a little chilly at night (~57°f). It also part of the rainy season, but only light rains are expected. It may drizzles intermittently in the afternoon and then clear up. It will pay to bring a jacket if any large rains come.

Travel Note

Cab Information

The cab drivers at the airport will speak sufficient English to get you to your destination. Although Uber is widely available, they are typically not allowed to pick guests up at airports. A fair price to the center of Cusco (Plaza de Armas) is 20 soles (Peruvian currency) or less. $5 USD is more than enough but it will require bargaining. $10 USD is overpaying but it will make things easy.
