Marvin Yates Jr.

Groom

Looking forward to our special day!

Serena Hampton

Bride

I've had a smile on my face since meeting this man, and can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together.

Travis Wallace

Best Man

The groom's best friend since high school and best man. 15+ years together!. We have so many memories, I cant just name one thing, plus a lot of them are not appropriate for the site lol!!!

Crystal Tate

Maid of Honor

Serena and I met in middle school and have been best friends ever since! There are too many amazing memories to name! A few of my favorites with Serena was when we went to France and ended up at the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix (only us!), going to Napa and Sonoma Valley (so much fun!), when we went to Dallas and were team #nosleep all weekend (what were we thinking?!), practically every weekend I've visited her in DC, endless childhood memories, I can keep going lol!

Bryant "Dobie" Whitaker

Groomsman

I am the groom's older and better looking brother. Favorite memory together is going on a father son brother weekend in Toronto for his 18th bday and really fellowshipping with each other, until our dad's car got towed and he lost his mind!

Lauren Winn

Bridesmaid

I'm Lauren, Serena's, Cousin Bestie. Born and raised in Detroit. I've moved around a little after college, but now I call Detroit home. I like spending time with my loved ones, volunteering and mentoring young women. While we've been family since birth, our relationship grown over the last 10 years. Our relationship grew through dinner, girl talk, shopping, and attending events together. As I reflect, Serena has been there for every important event since the beginning of our cousin friendship: breakups, marriage, motherhood, death of a grandparent and more. She has never allowed distance to impede on her ability to show up. She's never been further than a phone call, FaceTime, text message, or road trip and I am extremely grateful for her love and friendship. Cheers to the soon-to-be Yates!

Lester Jones

Groomsman

Met Marv in college when he used to visit Trav at BGSU. Been partying, popping bottles, traveling and locked in ever since. Best memory has to be either the Miami spring break trip our senior year or the first group trip to Vegas!

Christian Nelson

Bridesmaid

I’m lucky to know both the bride and groom! Serena and I met over 20 years ago while attending the same elementary school. Marvin and I both met while attending the same college, MSU (Go Green! Go White). It is hard to pinpoint only one memory with sharing so many over a 20-year span. However, one of my fondest memories, is entering Southfield High, being a timid 9th grader trying to find my “crowd.” Without asking, Serena instantly took me under her wing, and we would eat lunch together, walk the halls in our posse 😊 and even stayed after school attending some the same clubs. Her constant sense of confidence and adventure rubbed off on me and gave me some of the best high school experiences!

Bryan Cotton

Groomsman

I've known Marv since his freshman year of college. His assistant hall director told me he needed a mentor, when he really just wanted to be an Alpha. My direct pers, my son in Alpha and my good friend. So many good times. Thirsty Thursday at the Alpha, strolling/stepping, road trips, getting yelled out by administration together, the countless G-Chat convos over the years (good and bad)!

Stephanie Hall

Bridesmaid

Serena and I met at Southfield Lathrup High School almost 20 years ago. She started out as my nail tech then my hair stylist but through all of that she has been my friend. Serena and I have so many memories but greatest memory would have to be our random bike ride through Downtown/Corktown Detroit. I think we clocked in about 20 plus miles and my body still hates me for that. I’m still complaining about it. However all of the laughs, pictures and memories were worth it. Serena is definitely the more adventurous one between us both but she’s allowed me to look at life differently. To value the moment and cherish the days that God has blessed us with.

Ryan Robinson

Groomsman

Been friends with the groom since high school and we are frat brothers. Some of my best memories with Marv were any random night when we both first moved to DC, but probably that night we went to Heaven and Hell Bar lol

Jennifer Smith

Bridesmaid

Serena is my favorite friend, we ALWAYS have thee best time together! We met at Lathrup where we were on the dance team together and called ourselves the Dance Company Rejects 🤦🏾‍♀️ (You’ll find out why at the reception). We have so many fun and hilarious memories together, but the one the stands out the most is when we got suspended for egging and spraying whipped cream on all the cars in the student parking lot!!!

V Trice

Groomsman

Marv and I met in DC and have been hooping together for about 7 years. As both MSU grads, a mutual friend connected us. In addition to the ton of basketball stories we have, those random summer time hang outs involving wine and going to random BBQs and parties are likely the highlights.

Dorothy Johnson

Bridesmaid

Serena is one of my best friends. We have been friends now for over 8 years. We met in DC but connected over our love for Detroit. I have so many memories with Serena! One of my favorite memories would have to be one day in the shop, I was down about something and Serena began praying for me. She started praying so hard, that she began crying from my pain. By then, I already knew she was my girl, but at that moment, our commitment to sisterhood was crystal clear!
